Engine

2.4-Liter, 16-Valve DOHC i-VTEC (TLX 2.4)

FEATURE: The 2.4-liter, DOHC i-VTEC® Direct Injection (DI) 2.4 engine produces 206 horsepower @ 6800 rpm and 182 lb-ft of torque @ 4500 rpm (SAE net). The engine has a die-cast aluminum-alloy cylinder block and cylinder head.

  • The engine’s i-VTEC system combines VTC (Variable Timing Control), which continuously adjusts the intake camshaft phase, with Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC®), which changes the valve lift, timing and duration of the intake valves

Front and Rear Subframe System

FEATURE: The front subframe supports the engine, transmission, suspension and Electric Power Steering (EPS) system. It attaches to the body using special mounts to help isolate NVH from the cabin. It has additional stiffeners and large mounting hardware for reduced vibration and improved steering feel. The rear subframe is constructed of high-tensile steel and increased fitting-point stiffness to reduce road vibration and shock input for a smooth ride.

Idle Stop (TLX 3.5 SH-AWD Models)

FEATURE: The Idle Stop feature can automatically turn off the engine when decelerating or when the vehicle is stopped. When the driver presses the throttle after a stop, the engine automatically restarts and the vehicle accelerates.

  • The system is engineered to operate smoothly and seamlessly. Active engine mounts help smooth the restart so that it’s unobtrusive to the driver and passengers.
  • When stopped, a special cold-storage evaporator in the air-conditioning system helps maintain a comfortable cabin temperature even in warm weather.

Integrated Dynamics System

FEATURE: The Integrated Dynamics System allows the driver to choose the dynamic response of the vehicle with a push of a button. Drivers can choose from Normal, Economy, Sport, or Sport+ settings that tailor throttle and transmission response, steering, and on SH-AWD models, torque vectoring to the rear wheels. The Multi-Information Display informs the driver of their selected mode and the settings can be stored in each key fob memory under personalized settings.

Motion-Adaptive Electric Power Steering (EPS)

FEATURE: The next-generation motion-adaptive Electric Power Steering (EPS) offers precise direct feel, high energy-efficiency, tunable response and improved active safety. EPS responds instantly to steering input and automatically changes the amount of power assist appropriate to the vehicle’s speed.

  • When compared to the operation of a conventional hydraulic-pump power-steering system, the simpler motion-adaptive EPS increases efficiency because it does not draw a continuous amount of power directly from the engine.
  • Motion-adaptive EPS and VSA®2 work together as one sophisticated system to significantly enhance active safety. The stability technology initiates steering inputs that prompt the driver to steer in the correct direction when the limits of traction are approached.
  • Motion-Adaptive Electric Power Steering (EPS) also integrates with the Integrated Dynamics System (IDS). At the driver’s discretion, the steering response can be calibrated to two distinct driving modes:
    • Econ and Normal modes
    • Sport and Sport+ modes

BENEFIT: When VSA®2 detects that the vehicle is not following the driver’s intended line, the system can vary the amount of steering assist to encourage the driver to steer in the proper direction.

Precision All-Wheel Steer (P-AWS) (FWD Models)

FEATURE: Precision All-Wheel Steer™ (P-AWS®) is the industry’s first all-wheel steering system that can independently adjust the toe angle of each rear wheel (not always together, as with conventional all-wheel systems).

  • At low speed, the system adjusts the rear wheel toe angles in opposite (or reverse) phase (or direction) compared to the front wheels to help tighten the turning circle and aid maneuverability. At higher speeds, the system can adjust the rear wheels in the same phase (or direction) as the front wheels to enhance directional control. During braking, the system can “toe-in” the rear wheels (like a skier braking on a slope) to aid stability. P-AWS is standard on all front-wheel-drive TLX models.

Sequential SportShift Paddle Shifters

FEATURE: The steering wheel-mounted paddle shifter operation is tied to the Integrated Dynamics System (IDS).

  • Paddle Shifter Operation in Econ, Normal and Sport IDS Modes
    • While in Econ, Normal or Sport IDS modes, special transmission logic programming allows the use of the steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. When the driver operates the paddle shifters, the transmission responds to the driver’s shift command and then returns to its normal fully automatic mode if further paddle shift inputs are not made within a given time. This special logic makes it easy for the driver to command a quick downshift without leaving the convenience of Drive mode.
  • Paddle Shifter Operation in Sport+ Mode
    • When the IDS is switched to the Sport+ mode, a pull on the racing-inspired paddle shifters (mounted on the steering wheel) places the transmission in fully manual mode until another mode of operation is selected. A digital display in the instrument cluster indicates which gear the transmission is in.

BENEFIT: Paddle shifters allow the driver to control transmission shifting without taking their hands off the steering wheel.

 Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) (TLX 3.5 models)

FEATURE: The TLX is offered with a new generation of Acura’s acclaimed Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®), which progressively distributes optimum torque not only between the front and rear axles, but also between the left and right rear wheels to actually help turn the car. With cornering forces more evenly distributed between front and rear tires, overall cornering power is increased – on wet or dry roads. SH-AWD delivers more responsive, neutral and predictable handling performance, while providing outstanding all-weather control. The new, lighter-weight SH-AWD rear drive unit offers a much more pronounced torque vectoring effect, even in tighter corners.

Suspension

MacPherson-Strut Front Suspension

FEATURE: MacPherson-strut front suspension provides precise and engaging handling performance, a responsive feel for the driver and luxurious ride quality. Specially tuned bushings improve resistance to shimmy while also reducing brake judder. In addition, a large-diameter tubular (hollow) stabilizer bar helps reduce body roll when cornering.

Multi-Link Rear Suspension

FEATURE: Multi-link rear suspension geometry is optimized for a flat ride during cornering, confident turning capability and a sophisticated ride in a variety of urban, highway and open-road scenarios. The system includes multi-link control arms, control-arm bushings that are optimized for the best blend of noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) isolation, and handling precision. In addition, a large-diameter stabilizer bar helps reduce body roll when cornering.

Sport-Tuned Suspension (A-SPEC Package)

FEATURE: TLX models with the A-SPEC Package have a sport-tuned suspension with more aggressive damper, bushing and spring settings.

Tires

FEATURE: Low rolling-resistance tires help improve fuel efficiency3. Tire rolling resistance is defined as the force required to keep a properly inflated tire rolling at a constant speed. The difference between low rolling-resistance tires and regular tires is the technology used to reduce rotational drag. This technology ranges from rubber compounds to sidewall construction to how the tread pattern rolls across the pavement. It is estimated that a 10% reduction in tire rolling resistance will result in a 1%–2% improvement in fuel efficiency. While this may not seem like much, it is one of many things Acura does to help improve fuel efficiency3 that includes exterior aerodynamics, weight reduction and advanced fuel management systems.

Transmissions

8-Speed Dual Clutch Transmission with Torque Converter (TLX 2.4)

FEATURE: In the 8-speed DCT, one clutch controls the odd-numbered gears while the other clutch controls the even-numbered gears. This arrangement allows gear changes with a much smaller interruption in power to the wheels, resulting in millisecond-quick shifts.

  • Compared to a conventional manual transmission, the operation of the clutches and shifting mechanisms is electronically controlled, eliminating the need for a clutch pedal or manual shift lever. The DCT features closely spaced ratios, ultra-quick shifts and automatic downshift rev-matching.
  • The ultra-thin torque converter complements the efficient operation of the DCT by providing exceptionally smooth operation in stop-and-go situations, plus it offers off-the-line torque multiplication for improved initial acceleration that a DCT alone can’t equal.
  • The transmission can be operated in two different, fully automatic modes, which are controlled by the Integrated Dynamics System (IDS). In Econ, Normal and Sport IDS modes, the transmission combines fuel efficiency with smooth operation and responsive power when needed. When the IDS is placed in Sport+ mode, the transmission switches to more aggressive mapping that puts the emphasis on performance-oriented driving, with higher engine rpm for greater acceleration and response. Standard paddle shifters provide a more involved driving experience by allowing drivers to shift manually, if they choose to.

BENEFIT: Sequential SportShift 8-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) with torque converter provides a sporty driving experience without sacrificing fuel efficiency.3

 9-Speed Automatic Transmission (TLX 3.5)

FEATURE: This 9-speed automatic transmission is exceptionally sophisticated and smooth shifting. It features Grade Logic Control that allows the transmission to stay in a lower gear when going up or down hill for improved control. Shift Hold Control delays up-shifts while accelerating through a curve for improved performance. Standard steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters allow the driver to control up-shifts and down-shifts.

BENEFIT: This sophisticated transmission helps improve performance and fuel efficiency3, and adds to the overall driving experience.

Variable Cylinder Management (TLX 3.5)

FEATURE: Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM®) works in conjunction with the i-VTEC® system and Active Control engine Mounts (ACM) to help maximize fuel efficiency3 and lower emissions.

  • When high power is required, such as during acceleration or climbing hills, the engine operates on all six cylinders. During periods of moderate-speed cruising and at low engine loads, the system operates just one bank of three cylinders, thereby helping to maximize fuel efficiency.3 To smooth the transition between activating or deactivating cylinders, the system adjusts ignition timing and Drive by Wire™ throttle position and turns the torque converter lockup on and off. As a result, the transition between 3- and 6-cylinder operation is usually unnoticeable to the driver.

BENEFIT: VCM® combines to help maximize performance and fuel efficiency3 – two characteristics that don’t typically coexist in conventional engines.

Performance

Agile Handling Assist

FEATURE: Agile Handling Assist®1 uses components from the Vehicle Stability Assist™2 system to further improve handling. While VSA® brakes individual wheels to avoid understeer or oversteer, Agile Handling Assist uses active braking – usually on an inside wheel – to help the vehicle smoothly trace the desired line through a curve.

BENEFIT: Agile Handling Assist®1 helps improve cornering response during spirited driving.

Amplitude-Reactive Dampers

FEATURE: The shock absorbers feature two separate damping circuits with one tuned for maximum efficiency on smoother roads with small inputs, and the other tuned to handle large inputs, such as rough roads, potholes, and sudden steering and braking action. These advanced units provide firm damping for stable, flat cornering while also having the ability to absorb big bumps for a smooth, comfortable ride – like having two suspensions in one.

BENEFIT: Amplitude-reactive dampers provide outstanding ride quality and handling quality under a wide range of road conditions.

Cold Air Induction System

FEATURE: The cold air induction system helps reduce intake temperatures. To maximize power output, the cold-air intake system picks up engine induction air from the grille area at the front of the vehicle, which is typically about 5% cooler than the air in the hot engine compartment. Cooler intake air has greater density, which allows the system to add proportionately more fuel for enhanced power output.

BENEFIT: Cold air induction helps improve engine performance by reducing engine intake air temperatures

Direct Injection (DI)

FEATURE: Compared to conventional engines, a direct-injection engine uses a fuel-delivery system that injects fuel directly into the combustion chamber, as opposed to injecting the fuel into the intake port. The system works using high-pressure injectors, a high-pressure fuel pump and an ECU to precisely control the timing of the fuel injectors.

  • Along with allowing a higher compression ratio, the greater combustion efficiency provided by direct injection enables the engine to deliver better power with greater fuel efficiency.3
  • Because the high-pressure fuel pump is a mechanical design, direct-injection systems tend to generate a slight ticking sound – a normal characteristic. It is particularly noticeable when standing beside the vehicle while the engine is idling. Acura’s direct-injection system is designed to run more quietly than most competing systems by using a damper inside the high-pressure pump. This helps provide a more quiet idle and a more refined engine note during acceleration.

BENEFIT: Direct Injection (DI) helps deliver excellent engine performance without sacrificing fuel efficiency.3

Electric Parking Brake with Automatic Brake Hold

FEATURE: The electric parking brake helps make using the parking brake easier and more comfortable. The parking brake is engaged by pulling up on a switch located on the center console. To release the parking brake, the driver simply puts the vehicle in gear and presses on the accelerator pedal.

  • Automatic Brake Hold retains brake pressure when the vehicle is stopped, simplifying driving in heavy traffic or hills. Operating Automatic Brake Hold requires two simple actions from the drive
    • Activating/deactivating the system via a switch on the center console
    • Pressing on the brake pedal when the vehicle comes to a stop
    • Once these steps are taken, Automatic Brake Hold will indicate engagement and then maintain brake pressure when the vehicle has come to a stop, even if the driver releases the brake pedal. The vehicle then remains stopped – even on a hill – until the driver presses the accelerator pedal. At this point, Automatic Brake Hold releases the brakes and the vehicle resumes normal braking function.

Lighting & Visibility.

Aerodynamic Styling

FEATURE: Testing 40% scale models in a wind tunnel allowed designers to meticulously shape and trim the TLX to not only look good, but also to help reduce drag for a quieter ride. In their effort to significantly reduce the intrusion of wind, road and engine noise into the cabin, Acura engineers paid special attention to body sealing, reducing open air paths into the cabin. The TLX is also the first Acura to utilize acoustic spray foam, which is applied in 10 critical location throughout the body. The TLX’s unit body utilizes advanced lightweight materials, including ultra-high-strength steel, aluminum (hood, bumper beams and front subframe) and magnesium (steering hangar beam) to minimize weight while providing for a high degree of rigidity that benefits both dynamic performance and occupant safety. Also incorporated into the body is the next-generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) frontal body structure, and a new one-piece, hot-stamped-steel door stiffener ring, similar to the design first applied on the 2014 Acura MDX.

Aluminum-Alloy Wheels

FEATURE: All TLX models are equipped with stylish aluminum-alloy wheels and high-performance all-season tires.

  • The TLX 2.4 has stylish 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with P225/55 R17 all-season tires.
  • The TLX 3.5 Technology and Advance Packages have larger 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with P225/50 R18 all-season tires.
  • The TLX 3.5 A-SPEC has 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with P245/45 R19 all-season tires.

BENEFIT: Lightweight aluminum-alloy wheels reduce unsprung weight, helping to enhance vehicle ride and handling.

 High-Strength Hot-Stamped Steel

FEATURE: High-strength steel is much stronger than regular stamped steel. This means less metal is needed to achieve the same or better strength, making the body structure stronger and lighter:

  • 59% of the TLX’s body structure is made up of lightweight high-strength steel, aluminum-alloy and magnesium
  • Because high-strength steel is stronger than regular steel, it is also more resistant to being formed into different shapes. For the “hot stamp” steel used in the TLX’s doorframes, the material is super-heated before it goes into the stamping press to make it more pliable. Once it has cooled, it retains its original strength, which should helped the TLX achieve outstanding crash-test results. And because the body structure is stiffer, permitting less twisting and bending, it allows the suspension to be tuned more precisely for excellent ride and handling.

BENEFIT: Although costlier than traditional steel, this high-grade, high-tensile-strength steel substantially increases body structure rigidity without adding excessive weight to the vehicle.

LED Fog Lights (A-SPEC and Advance Packages)

FEATURE: LED fog lights located in the front fascia give a clean, well-integrated look. They project a wide, low beam, which helps the driver see more of the road when driving at night.

BENEFIT: Fog lights create bright illumination at night for greater driving confidence

LED Headlights

FEATURE: Jewel Eye® LED headlights are a signature design theme found on every Acura product. Each Jewel Eye headlight features five LED lamps (three for low beam; two for high beam).

BENEFIT: LED headlights create brighter and sharper illumination at night than HID or halogen headlights for greater driving confidence. LED headlights can last up to five times longer than HID headlights, and up to 10 times longer than halogen headlights.

LED Puddle Lights (Advance Package)

FEATURE: LED puddle lights are located under the outside mirrors and provide illumination at both front doors when approaching the vehicle at night. The puddle lights, as well as the interior lights, automatically illuminate when the Keyless Access fob is within 9 feet of the vehicle.

BENEFIT: LED puddle lights illuminate the area around the vehicle for more confident footing at night.

LED Taillights

FEATURE: The TLX’s taillights feature a large wraparound design to help increase its presence on the road. Signature LED illumination gives bright, quick response.

BENEFIT: LED lights create brighter and sharper illumination over regular incandescent bulbs.

CONTROLS

Keyless Access System

Approach the TLX with the key in your pocket, and the Keyless Access System will unlock the doors, set your climate, seat and music preferences and let you start the car with the push of a button.

  • The vehicle senses the key remote but won’t unlock the door until you touch the handle.
  • Engine and auxiliary controls can be turned on and off at the touch of a button.
  • Touching the driver’s door handle adjusts the seats, steering wheel, and side mirrors to your preferred settings. Radio presets (AM, FM and SiriusXM® Satellite Radio3), speed dial and navigation locations (if equipped) are also activated.
  • Inside, the Multi-Information Display (located between the speedometer and tachometer) informs you to start the car by pushing the start button while applying brake pressure.
  • When leaving the car, pushing a button on the outer door handle locks the vehicle.
  • To cool the car on a hot day, you can lower all the windows and open the sunroof by pressing the unlock button on the remote a second time and holding it as you approach the vehicle.

Rain-Sensing Wipers

Windshield wipers are generally taken for granted, but the TLX wipers offer some unexpected sophistication.

  • A flat design enhances the clean exterior appearance.
  • Activating the wipers automatically turns on the headlights after five wipes, helping drivers comply with regulations in many states. The headlights will turn off two-and-a-half minutes after the last wipe.
  • The windshield rain sensors turn on the wipers automatically when rain is detected.
  • The shaped, articulated wiper arms give greater coverage than conventional wipers.

Remote Engine Start

With the Advance Package, the remote engine start can warm up the engine and heat or cool the cabin.

  • From up to 328 feet (100 meters), you can remotely start the engine using the two-way keyless access remote, depending on terrain or building obstruction.
  • The climate control is automatically set to 72 degrees, pre-conditioning the TLX interior to a comfortable temperature. In cold weather, seat heaters activate while the defrost function works to clear the windshield.
  • The car can be driven only when the TLX detects the remote inside the car.
  • LED lights on the remote inform the driver of the ignition status.</li.
  • Although the security system remains active during remote start, the wipers, audio and lighting are disengaged.

Acoustic Glass Windshield

FEATURE: Acoustic windshield glass features sound-insulating material that helps reduce the amount of outside noise coming into the cabin. A thin layer of sound-blocking material is sandwiched between the layers of glass that can block up to 15 decibels of outside noise from the cabin.

Triple Door Seals

FEATURE: Triple door seals help block unwanted outside noise from entering the cabin. The outer seals are designed to help keep the fast-moving passing airflow from entering the cavities around the door hinges and sills, where it can create noise. Two more large seals mounted on the door and doorframes provide added barriers to noise intrusion.

BENEFIT: The interior becomes quieter and more comfortable, allowing passengers to have easier conversation or enjoy the audio system with greater clarity.

Comfort and Convenience

Active Noise Control and Active Sound Control

FEATURE: Active Noise Control (ANC) and Active Sound Control (ASC) are key contributors to a quiet, refined interior. Active Noise Control and Active Sound Control are comprised of dual overhead microphones, an ANC/ASC electronic processor, and the audio system’s speakers. ASC/ANC operates whenever the engine is running, even if the audio system is turned off.

  • ANC is designed to reduce low-frequency sound in the cabin caused mainly by the roughness of the road surface. The overhead microphones pick up sound waves and send them to the ANC/ASC processor, which creates and sends a precisely timed “reverse phase” audio signal to a special amplifier. In turn, the amplifier drives the door speakers to cancel the original noise signal.
  • ASC is a related technology designed to improve the engine sound. Typically, engine noise doesn’t increase in a linear way with rising revs; instead there can be many resonances that create peaks and valleys in the sound pressure level and an uneven sound. ASC helps smooth out the engine sound by creating a same-phase or reverse-phase sound signal as needed and sending it to the speakers.
  • ASC is part of the Integrated Dynamics System (IDS). When the IDS is in Econ or Normal mode, the ASC system is tuned for a smooth, unobtrusive engine sound. When the IDS is switched to Sport or Sport+, the engine sound takes on a more aggressive note.

BENEFIT: Active Noise Control and Active Sound Control help enhance interior quietness and improve the driving experience.

Acura/ELS Studio Premium Audio System (Technology, A-SPEC and Advance Packages)

FEATURE: Acura/ELS Studio®8 Premium Audio System is a state-of-the-art audio system tuned by GRAMMY® Award-winning producer/ engineer Elliot Scheiner. This system can play program material from a wide range of sources. It plays conventional CDs, discs encoded with MP3 or WMA files, and DVD-Audio discs. With hundreds of times the resolution of a normal CD, DVD-Audio allows for an astounding dynamic range and clarity.

  • There is also an auxiliary mini-jack for use with an external MP3 player, and a USB Audio Interface9 for the connection of an iPod®10 or compatible MP3 player. The system also includes SiriusXM® Radio11, the Note function for XM® Radio, and Song By Voice®.

BENEFIT: The Acura/ELS Studio®8 Premium Audio System provides a true sound quality experience rivaling high-end home audio systems for extraordinary audio entertainment. If your client’s primary motivation is quality, explain that Acura’s audio systems are high-end systems that will bring them hours of listening enjoyment.

Acura Navigation System with 3D View (Technology, A-SPEC and Advance Packages)

FEATURE: The Acura Satellite-Linked Navigation System7 uses GPS technology and a 60 GB hard-disk-drive-based (HDD) system to provide drivers with turn-by-turn guidance to their chosen destination. The system features an 8-inch, high-resolution backlit color display that takes the place of the audio/information display in non-navigation models

  • The system can be controlled by voice or with the convenient interface dial. The system includes surface-street traffic data and provides coverage in many areas within the U.S., allowing the driver to choose faster, less-congested routes. The navigation screen can display regularly updated traffic information, including traffic flow, and incidents and construction on freeways and on surface streets. Go to the map screen to show clients how easy it is to find destinations, such as “Find nearest Italian restaurant.”

BENEFIT: The system provides the confidence and freedom to go just about anywhere, while helping drivers reduce potential distractions and get to a desired destination more quickly.

Acura Personalized Settings

FEATURE: Acura Personalized Settings help drivers tailor the vehicle to their unique preferences. Available preferences include driver seat and mirror positions, along with select HVAC functions. Other

  • To adjust the vehicle settings using the MID, cycle through the screens by rolling the steering wheel-mounted right selector wheel and then choose VEHICLE SETTINGS by pushing in on the selector wheel. Then scroll through the available settings and make the client’s preferred selections for driver1, and repeat the process for driver.2
  •  These and additional preferences can be accommodated using the SETTINGS button and the interface dial on the center stack.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow

FEATURE: Adaptive Cruise Control with low-speed follow15 is designed to maintain a set following interval when it approaches a detected vehicle. This vehicle speed- and distance-control system uses grille-mounted millimeter-wave radar and a camera to monitor the distance between the vehicle and the vehicle detected directly ahead. Like a conventional cruise control system, the vehicle system can maintain a preset speed. In addition, by combining radar and camera data with data from speed sensors, ACC can regulate vehicle speed to maintain a preset following interval. Integration of camera information improves the system’s recognition of vehicles ahead and their relative lane positions for better overall system performance.

  • The low-speed follow feature can reduce the driver workload in light traffic by maintaining a selected interval, even in stop-and-go traffic. If a vehicle detected ahead is in range of the system and slows to a stop, the TLX will also come to a stop. With a press of the RES/+/SET/ switch up or down, or with a press of the accelerator pedal, the vehicle will resume Low-Speed Follow mode.

FEATURE: Apple CarPlay™17 takes the most popular functions and features of the user’s compatible iPhone® and puts them on the lower touchscreen display. You can get directions, send and receive messages, listen to audio books and music, all in a way that allows you to stay more focused on the road.

  • CarPlay features Siri® voice control and is specially designed for typical driving scenarios. It also works with the TLX’s controls – both on the ODMD touchscreen and the steering wheel-mounted controls, so you don’t need to pick up your phone.
  • CarPlay includes access to Apple Maps, which can provide turn-by-turn directions, traffic conditions and estimated travel time. CarPlay can also predict where you most likely want to go using addresses from your email, text messages, contacts, and calendars.
  • CarPlay is compatible with iPhones that feature the small Lightning connector, not older iPhones with the larger 30-pin connector

Android Auto

FEATURE: Android Auto™18 puts some of your phone’s most useful apps on the ODMD display. You can get directions, send and receive messages, and listen to audio books and music, all without the need to pick up your phone. Android Auto works with the TLX’s controls – both on the ODMD touchscreen and the steering-wheel mounted controls – so it’s simple and intuitive to use.

  • Android Auto’s voice control is specially designed for typical driving scenarios. Android Auto includes access to Google Maps, which can provide turn-by-turn directions, live traffic conditions, lane guidance and more. Android Auto is designed to work with Android phones running 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher.

BENEFIT: Android Auto™18 gives clients seamless integration of key smartphone features and functions, including smartphone-powered GPS navigation and voice-controlled search capabilities

Auto-On/Off Headlights Operation with Wiper Integration

FEATURE: Auto-on/off headlights automatically turn on whenever the windshield wipers are activated. To help drivers comply with some state regulations, if the headlight switch is in the AUTO position, the headlights will come on automatically when the windshield wipers are activated during the day.

BENEFIT: Integrated headlight-wiper operation enhances driver confidence and helps the vehicle be seen by other drivers when driving in inclement weather.

Capless Fuel Fill

FEATURE: The capless fuel fill system eliminates the need to remove and replace the fuel cap when refueling. The system has a shutter and a self-sealing flap to prevent dust and other debris from entering the fuel tank.

  • Simply open the fuel-filler door, insert the fuel nozzle and begin filling the tank. When finished, simply close the fuel door. An emergency funnel is located under the cargo floor in case fuel needs to be added from a container.

BENEFIT: This design enhances convenience and means the driver doesn’t have to remember to replace the cap after fueling the vehicle.

Cargo Bin System

FEATURE: The TLX features a well thought-out trunk that is fully lined. It features a low lift-over height, a wide, flat cargo floor and, on Advanced Package models, a roomy cargo bin located under the floor. Lifting the cargo floor reveals a hidden storage area that adds 1.1 cubic feet to the trunk for a total of 14.3 cubic feet19.

BENEFIT: This storage area helps keep smaller items from rolling loose in the trunk and keeps them out of sight when the trunk is open.

Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control System

FEATURE: Dual-zone automatic climate control allows the driver and front passenger to personalize their individual temperature settings. To operate the HVAC system, easy-to-read buttons and controls are positioned within convenient reach. The HVAC system can also be controlled by voice command, and additional custom settings can be accessed through the On Demand Multi-Use Display™ (ODMD™) interface.

  • A standard humidity control feature helps regulate moisture in the cabin air to help prevent window fogging. Voice commands can be used to control certain climate-control functions when the vehicle is equipped with the Acura Navigation System7 with Voice Recognition™.
  • With its position-sensing ability, the available GPS navigation system contributes to overall passenger comfort with a 3D solar-sensing feature. Based on continuously updated vehicle-position information, the navigation system determines the position of the sun relative to the driver and passenger. The climate control system automatically adjusts the temperature and airflow from side to side as needed to compensate for asymmetrical solar heating

BENEFIT: The driver and front passenger can choose their own separate settings for optimum comfort – and you don’t have to constantly adjust the controls to maintain those settings.

HD Radio (Technology, A-SPEC and Advance Packages)

FEATURE: HD Radio® enables the audio system to receive digital broadcasts from stations on the AM and FM bands. HD stations have the ability to broadcast multiple signals, called subchannels. To display a list of subchannels when tuned to an HD station, press the menu button, select “HD Subchannel” and then select the desired entry on the list displayed.

  • Another feature of HD Radio is song tagging. To tag a song for later purchase on an iPod® or iPhone®10, just touch the tag button on the ODMD™ while the song is playing. If an iPod® or iPhone® is connected to the system, the tag will be automatically downloaded to the device. Otherwise, the tag will be saved until the next time a device is connected.
  • Note that when the range of an HD station’s signal is exceeded while listening to a subchannel, the audio will stop with no indication on the display. A different station or source must then be selected.

BENEFIT: HD Radio® provides a broader range of programming and exceptional clarity for an even more enjoyable audio experience

Heated/Ventilated Front Seats (A-SPEC and Advance Packages)

Multi-Information Display (MID)

FEATURE: The color Multi-Information Display (MID) is positioned between the tachometer and speedometer. Controls positioned on the right side of the steering wheel allow the driver to cycle the MID through multiple screens of information from sources, including LKAS20, ACC15 and more. The Maintenance Minder™ system alerts the driver of upcoming maintenance needs.

Multi-View Rear Camera with Dynamic Guidelines

FEATURE: The multi-view rear camera25 helps enhance visibility when backing out of a parking space or driveway. When the transmission is placed in Reverse, the rear camera image appears on the upper screen. In addition to the “Normal view,” with 130 degrees of rearward visibility, the driver can select “Wide view,” with 175 degrees of rearward visibility or a “Top-Down view” of the parking area. Pressing the selector knob – or interface dial on navigation-equipped models – easily changes views.

  • To make it easier for the driver to judge distances, yellow on-screen guidelines indicate the vehicle’s width, along with distances of approximately 3, 6 and 9 feet from the rear of the vehicle. Technology and Advance Package models add a Rear Cross Traffic Monitor25 and dynamic guidelines to the rear camera system, making it easier to maneuver out of parking spots with greater confidence.

BENEFIT: Drivers can see a wider area behind them, enhancing both confidence and convenience when backing up. The multi-view rear camera25 offers numerous innovations and special features. Make sure to review them with clients, demonstrate how the system functions, and then let clients practice. Rear Cross Traffic Monitor25 on Technology, A-SPEC and Advance Package models helps improve driver confidence when backing out of a parking spot.

On Demand Multi-Use Display (ODMD)

FEATURE: The On Demand Multi-Use Display™ (ODMD™) touchscreen is positioned within easy reach of the driver and front passenger. The touchscreen controls a wide range of features and, with its contextual menus, displays relevant items while minimizing clutter. To simplify use, the screen offers audible and vibratory touch feedback – both can be adjusted or shut off based on the owner’s preference.

  • Customizable shortcuts allow the driver to set easy-to-access presets for Places, Phone, Climate and Audio functional categories. For more information on how to set shortcuts, see Features section of the vehicle’s owner’s manual.
  • The 2018 TLX is the first Acura to feature a refreshed dual-screen user On Demand Multi-Use Display™ (ODMD 2.0) interface that supports Apple CarPlay™17, Android Auto™18 and Sirius XM 2.011. New software improves the system response time and offers more intuitive menus and command structures for a seamless and quicker user experience – approximately 30% faster. An enhanced 7-inch touchscreen has a capacitive display that is more responsive to the touch and is positioned within easy reach of the driver and front passenger.
  • Beginning with models delivered in Fall 2015, and also included in an available map update beginning in the same time period, new system software is designed to provide enhanced system speed and voice recognition accuracy.
  • With a shortened list of available commands and a new six-category voice recognition portal, the update provides easy access to the most commonly used commands, while improving voice recognition accuracy
  • It’s important to note that existing clients who install the update will have a reduced number of available voice commands and it’s possible that some commands they have used in the past will no longer be available in their Acura. The software update cannot be reversed.

BENEFIT: The On Demand Multi-Use Display™ provides a cleaner look, while making the TLX’s controls easy and intuitive to use.

One-Touch Turn Signals

FEATURE: One-touch turn signals flash three times for convenient lane changes. In addition to normal operation, a quick movement of the turn signal lever will cause the turn signals to flash three times. Lightly push the turn signal lever up or down, and then release for a three-blink sequence.

BENEFIT: One-touch turn signals provide increased convenience for the driver when making routine lane changes.

Pandora Compatibility

FEATURE: Pandora®14 is free personalized radio that offers effortless music enjoyment and discovery. Users enter the name of a favorite artist, song, comedian, genre or composer and Pandora does the rest, creating personalized stations that play only music they’ll love. Use the thumbs-up and thumbs-down icons to rate songs as they play, and Pandora will learn the user’s preferences to update stations on the spot. Up to 100 personalized radio stations can be created with a free account. If a user isn’t sure where to start, Pandora also offers hundreds of music and comedy genre stations.

BENEFIT: If your client is already a Pandora®14 listener, it’s even simpler— they can just log in to enjoy existing stations.

Remote Engine Start (Advance Package)

FEATURE: Long-range remote engine start provides the ability to start the engine before entering the vehicle – from up to a quarter-mile away.

  • To start the engine remotely, press the LOCK button and then hold the ENGINE button for a few seconds. When the engine is started remotely, the wipers, lighting and audio systems remain off, and the security system remains set. The engine will run for up to 10 minutes after remote starting and then shuts off automatically, unless the driver’s door is opened and the START button is pushed.
  • This system also provides feedback to confirm whether the engine is running or the vehicle is locked. The remote has three LED indicators: amber, green and red. To confirm engine start, press the LOCK button and then hold the ENGINE button for a few seconds. The amber indicator will flash while the remote communicates with the vehicle. If the engine is running, the green LED will then light for one second. If the engine is not running, the red indicator will light for one second.
  • To verify whether the vehicle is locked, press the LOCK button once. After the amber light comes on, either the green or red LED will illuminate for one second to indicate that the vehicle is locked or not, respectively. And if the red LED flashes three times, the vehicle is out of the remote’s range.

BENEFIT: This system can pre-warm the vehicle’s interior on a cold winter morning – or a pre-cool it on hot days. It also adds the convenience and confidence of knowing that the vehicle is securely locked while the engine is running. Plus, it operates far beyond the range of a typical remote engine-start system.

Siri Eyes Free

FEATURE: Siri®24 Eyes Free works with compatible iPhones®10. After pairing a compatible iPhone®, press the steering wheel-mounted TALK button for approximately 2 seconds or until the Siri chime sounds. After the chime, questions can be asked, calendar entries can be set up and more. Siri offers a wide range of capabilities, including sending and reading aloud text and email messages, setting alarms and reminders, checking the weather, posting to social media sites, and much more. Siri can also find a point of interest, then provide turn-by-turn audio directions when the audio system is set to Bluetooth®6 audio or iPod mode.

BENEFIT: Siri24 Eyes Free allows the use of many iPhone®10 features without removing your hands from the steering wheel.

SiriusXM Radio

FEATURE: A new generation 2.0/3.0 version of SiriusXM®11 Radio provides more than 165 channels of digital programming with near CD-quality sound. The SiriusXM signal is beamed from two broadcast satellites positioned in geostationary orbit above Earth. The beams from these two broadcast satellites combine to span the entire continental United States and some of Canada.

  • SiriusXM Radio programming includes channels devoted to music, sports, talk, traffic, weather, children’s programming and entertainment. When the audio system plays SiriusXM Radio, the audio system displays the current category, station, song title or artist’s name.
  • This latest generation of SiriusXM includes many all-new features, including pause, fast forward and rewind. There is also an instant replay feature and the ability to hear all songs from the beginning on preset channels. The new Sports Flash feature lets you listen to your favorite (non-sports) programming, and if your favorite team makes a big play in a live game that is being broadcast on SiriusXM, you will receive an onscreen alert. With a touch of a soft key, you can hear up to 30 seconds of audio before and including the big play.

BENEFIT: SiriusXM®11 Radio provides more than 165 channels of digital programming with near CD-quality sound.

Smart Entry with Pushbutton Start

FEATURE: Smart Entry with pushbutton start allows the doors to be locked/unlocked and the engine started without having to remove the remote from your pocket or purse. The doors can be unlocked or locked by pressing the soft-touch button located on either of the front door handles while the remote is in your possession. Smart Entry also features a unique “quick vent” feature. By pressing the “unlock” button on the remote for two seconds after unlocking the doors, the system lowers the front windows and opens the power moonroof to quickly vent built-up interior heat.

BENEFIT: Smart Entry with pushbutton start adds convenience by eliminating the need to physically unlock the doors or trunk with a key or remote, or start the vehicle with a key.

SMS Text Message Function

FEATURE: The SMS text message13 function can read incoming texts aloud over the audio system, and allow the driver to reply with any of six factory preset messages. The system works with SMS-capable cell phones that have an active data plan and the Message Access Profile (MAP), such as the BlackBerry®, Droid X and others.

  • Once a compatible phone is paired with the Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink®6 system, the text messaging function is enabled. When the phone receives a text message, an alert appears on the audio/information screen (or navigation screen in vehicles equipped with navigation). Using the audio system controls, the driver can choose to have the message read aloud, select among the preset reply choices or call the sender – all without handling their phone.
  • To minimize potential driver distractions, the ability to send text messages is limited while driving, but the driver is allowed to choose from six convenient pre-written messages, which cannot be changed:
    • Talk to you later, I’m driving
    • I’m on my way
    • I’m running late.
    • OK.
    • YES
    • NO
  • The driver also has the option of selecting “Call,” which automatically calls the person who sent the text. The system will display up to 20 text messages and an unread message will display as an unopened envelope icon

BENEFIT: The SMS text message13 function encourages responsible texting and gives drivers easy access to this handy communication system, providing an important option for using a phone while driving.

Steering Wheel

FEATURE: The steering wheel-mounted controls consist of Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink®6, cruise control, Multi-Information Display (MID) and the audio system. On Technology, A-SPEC and Advance Package models, there are also controls for the Acura Navigation System7 with Voice Recognition™, which extends voice-recognition capability to the audio and climate controls. All models add controls for Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)20 and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with low-speed follow.15

BENEFIT: The steering wheel is the command center for many functions, allowing drivers to keep their hands on the wheel and their eyes on the road for enhanced confidence and convenience.

Surround View Camera System (Advance Package)

FEATURE: The Surround View Camera system25 uses discreetly placed cameras mounted in the grille, outside mirrors and rear license plate finisher to show real-time images in the upper audio/information display. CAMERA buttons are located on the end of the turn-signal stalk and to the right of the interface dial in the center stack. Pressing these buttons will activate the system and allow the driver to cycle through various displays to aid during low-speed driving or parking situations.

  • Pressing the CAMERA button when the vehicle is stopped or traveling at 12 mph (20 km/h) or below will activate the system. If the vehicle speed exceeds 15 mph (25 km/h), the Surround View Camera display automatically switches to the audio/information screen. Pressing the CAMERA button at speeds above 15 mph (25 km/h) will display a standby screen until vehicle speed is reduced below 12 mph (20 km/h).
  • With the transmission in Park or Drive, press the CAMERA button to select one of the following frontal views:        
  • Front Ground View
    • A front view will show on the left side of the display while an overhead view of the vehicle is displayed on the right. Use this view to check for obstacles directly in front of the vehicle or when parking or maneuvering in confined areas.
    • Front Wide View
    • A wide front view will show on the full display. Use this view to check the right and left sides of the vehicle while crossing at intersections with poor visibility.
    • Right Side View
    • Displays a view of the right side of the vehicle. Use this view when parallel parking to gauge distance from the vehicle to the curb. When the side mirrors are folded, the right side view cannot be displayed.
    • Guidelines and Projection Lines
    • Guidelines help the driver get a sense of distance between the vehicle and surrounding obstacles
    • Projection lines indicate the vehicles projected direction of travel in relation to the steering wheel’s position.
    • Depending on your parking situation, you can select the following displays from the ODMD Parking Guideline menu:
    • Back-in right park guidance
    • Back-in left park guidance
    • Left parallel park guidance
    •  Right parallel park guidance
    • Left and Right Side Views
    • A split view of the left and right sides of the vehicle will display. Use this view to check for obstacles on either side of the vehicle or when backing into or parallel parking in a lined parking space. This view can also be used when slowly passing oncoming vehicles on a narrow road. When the side mirrors are folded, left and right side views cannot be displayed.

BENEFIT: The Surround View Camera system25 helps enhance visibility and driver confidence when parking or maneuvering in confined areas.

Welcome Lighting (Advance Package)

FEATURE: Welcome lighting is a convenience feature that recognizes the driver as they approach the vehicle. Once the driver is within detectable range, the system will illuminate the puddle lights located under the mirrors to greet the driver. When the driver touches the inside of the door handle, the doors will automatically unlock. When a door is opened, the front seats and footwells are lighted, and the MID displays a Welcome screen.

Safety and Driver-Assist Features

AcuraWatch

FEATURE: AcuraWatch™ is a suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies offered as standard equipment on all 2018 TLX models. AcuraWatch technologies include Collision Mitigation Braking System™23 (CMBS™), Lane Keeping Assist System20 (LKAS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with low-speed follow15 and Road Departure Mitigation26.

BENEFIT: AcuraWatch™ can significantly decrease the driver’s workload during freeway cruising by maintaining a set speed and following interval, initiating both braking and throttle inputs, and adding steering input to help the driver maintain their position in the detected lane.

Advanced Airbag System (SRS)

FEATURE: The advanced airbag system27 uses weight sensors in the front passenger seat and a position sensor for the driver seat as elements in determining the manner of deployment for the driver’s and front passenger’s front airbags

  • Based on input the SRS control unit receives from these and other sensors, it can decide whether to deploy the airbags and adjust the deployment force and timing for both front airbags. If the sensors detect the weight of a child (up to 65 lb. or 29 kg), the system will automatically turn off the passenger’s front airbag.

BENEFIT: Advanced airbags are designed to supplement the seat belts to help reduce the likelihood of head and upper body injuries in frontal crashes.27

Blind Spot Information System (Technology, A-SPEC and Advance Packages)

FEATURE: Blind spot information28 uses radar sensors located in the rear bumper that can detect when another vehicle is alongside or just to the rear in an adjacent lane. Depending on which side the other vehicle is detected, the system will illuminate a warning light located near the outside rearview mirror. If the driver uses the turn signals to indicate a lane change, the system will issue an audible tone as well.

BENEFIT: Blind spot information28 adds convenience by helping alert the driver that a vehicle may exist in the driver’s blind spot.

Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) with Head-Up Warning (Advance Package)

FEATURE: Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™)23 uses audio, visual and tactile signals to alert the driver to the risk of a frontal collision. CMBS is one of the most sophisticated safety systems available. The system can even take action to reduce the forces of a collision if the system determines one to be unavoidable.

  • Stage 1
    • In the first stage, if there is a risk of a collision with a vehicle detected ahead, the system will flash a “Brake” warning in the MID and a heads-up warning at the base of the windshield.
  • Stage 2
    • If the risk of a collision has increased further and the driver still takes no action, the second stage will continue the visual and audible alerts, and apply light braking. It will also tug on the driver’s seat belt to provide a tactile warning.
  • Stage 3
    • And in the last stage, if the driver still has taken no action and the system determines that a collision is now unavoidable, CMBS will continue the visual and audible alerts, plus it will apply strong braking and retract the front seat belts to help mitigate the forces of the collision.(Note, however, that depending on the circumstances, the system may skip the first or second stages, and go directly to the final stage when it determines that a collision is unavoidable.)

BENEFIT: CMBS™23 (part of the AcuraWatch™ suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies) is designed to alert the driver to a potential collision and can take proactive action to help reduce collision forces if one becomes unavoidable.

Driver’s Knee Airbag

FEATURE: Located below the steering column, the knee airbag27 is designed to help the driver maintain a proper position in a frontal crash to maximize the protection provided by the front airbags and seat belt. The driver’s knee airbag will be deployed only in the event of a sufficient frontal impact.

BENEFIT: The driver’s knee airbag helps enhance the driver’s protection in a frontal collision.27

Advanced, Multiple-Threshold Front Airbags (SRS)

FEATURE: Advanced, multiple-threshold front airbags (SRS) are provided for the driver and front passenger.27 One or both of these airbags will be deployed only in the event of a sufficient frontal impact. If deployed, these airbags are capable of being inflated at different rates, depending on crash severity, seat belt usage and/or other factors. Frontal airbags are designed to supplement the seat belts to help reduce the likelihood of head and upper body injuries in frontal crashes.

  • Advanced, Multiple-Threshold Airbag Parameters
    • Airbag deployment thresholds are controlled depending on the severity of a collision, driver seat position, passenger weight and seat belt buckle status of both occupants.
    • The advanced, multiple-threshold strategy applies to front airbags only and does not affect operation of side airbags or side curtain airbags.

BENEFIT: Front airbags are designed to supplement the seat belts to help reduce the likelihood of head and upper body injuries in frontal crashes.27

Forward Collision Warning (FCW) System

FEATURE: Forward Collision Warning (FCW)29 can detect vehicles ahead, determine if a collision is likely and alert the driver. It uses a camera mounted in the upper portion of the windshield to detect vehicles ahead and determine whether a collision is likely.

  • A “Brake” message appears on the MID and a series of beeps sound to alert the driver to apply the brake pedal. The FCW will not automatically brake and the driver remains responsible for safely operating the vehicle and avoiding collisions.
  • FCW alert features are a function of the CMBS™23 and use that system’s millimeter-wave radar feature to detect vehicles. If the system detects a vehicle in front of the car and determines that a collision may occur, it will trigger visual and audible alerts.
  • Drivers can adjust the distance at which the alerts will be triggered by pressing the SETTINGS button, selecting “Vehicle Settings,” then “Driver Assist System Setup” and the “Forward Collision Warning Distance” option. They can then choose “Long,” “Normal” or “Short.” Additionally, drivers can select “Off” to disable the system.

BENEFIT: Forward Collision Warning (FCW)29 can reduce the stress of driving in traffic while also providing an increased level of active safety for the driver.

Hill Start Assist

FEATURE: Hill start assist offers drivers additional convenience when starting to drive uphill or downhill. It will hold the brake pressure when stopped on an incline or descent for a brief period of time, allowing the driver’s foot to move from the brake pedal to the accelerator without having the vehicle start to move backward.

  • Hill start assist may not prevent the vehicle from rolling downhill on a very steep or slippery slope, and will not operate on small inclines.
  • Hill start assist is not a replacement for the parking brake.

BENEFIT: Hill start assist enhances confidence by allowing the driver to make smooth, sure takeoffs when driving in hilly terrain

Lane Departure Warning (LDW) System

FEATURE: The Lane Departure Warning (LDW)30 system is designed to alert the driver if the vehicle is leaving a detected lane without a turn signal activated. LDW uses a camera mounted behind the windshield near the rearview mirror. The camera is designed to recognize lane markings, so the system can detect when the vehicle is about to leave its lane. The system engages at speeds from 45 to 90 miles per hour on relatively straight or slightly curved roads.

BENEFIT: LDW30 (part of the AcuraWatch™ suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies) can help reduce the stress of driving on the open road while providing an increased level of active safety for the driver.

Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)

FEATURE: The Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)20 is designed to assist a driver in maintaining proper lane position when lane markings are identified without a turn signal in use. The system uses a windshield-mounted camera to look for lane markers and a steering-wheel actuator.

  • The system is able to identify Botts’ Dots and other lane markings, and works at speeds of 45 mph and higher. The system will not work at speeds above 90 mph. If LKAS determines that the vehicle is deviating from a detected lane with no turn signal in use, LKAS applies mild steering torque to assist in bringing the vehicle back to center. This can be especially useful when traveling on narrow roadways, such as carpool lanes.

BENEFIT: LKAS20 (part of the AcuraWatch™ suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies) helps to enhance steering precision and provides a more relaxing driving experience on narrow roadways.

Next-Generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) Body Structure

FEATURE: The next-generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure is the second generation of Acura’s proprietary ACE body structure design. ACE is an exclusive body design that enhances occupant protection and crash compatibility in frontal crashes. It uses a network of connected structural elements to distribute crash energy more evenly throughout the front of the vehicle, helping to reduce the forces transferred to the passenger compartment. It can help to more evenly disperse the forces transferred to other vehicles in a crash as well. ACE also helps reduce the chances that one vehicle will override another, improving crash compatibility of vehicles that differ in size. The next-generation ACE goes further by offering additional strength and protection in small overlap frontal collisions, which are among the most severe.

BENEFIT: This enhanced frontal crash-energy management is designed to help reduce the likelihood of occupant injury in a frontal crash, making for greater client confidence

Parking Sensors (A-SPEC and Advance Packages)

FEATURE: Front and rear parking sensors use ultrasonic-wave technology to detect obstacles. If an object is detected, the system will sound an audible alert and can display a warning icon in the Multi-Information Display (MID). The alert varies depending on how far away the object is from the vehicle. The system begins with slow, intermittent beeps when an object is first detected at a distance and progresses to quick intermittent beeps, as the vehicle gets closer to the object. The system will sound a continuous beep when the object is very near and within a few inches of the vehicle.

BENEFIT: Parking sensors help give drivers improved confidence when maneuvering in tight spaces

Rear Cross Traffic Monitor (Technology, A-SPEC and Advance Packages)

FEATURE: Rear Cross Traffic Monitor25 warns the driver when an approaching vehicle is detected while backing up. The system uses radar sensors located in the rear bumper that can detect when another vehicle is approaching from either side of the vehicle. If another vehicle is detected while backing up, such as reversing out of a parking spot, the system will issue an audible tone and on-screen arrows to alert the driver.

BENEFIT: Rear Cross Traffic Monitor25 helps improve driver confidence when backing out of a parking spot.

Road Departure Mitigation System

FEATURE: The Road Departure Mitigation26 system can recognize when the vehicle may be leaving a detected lane or the roadway itself, and then applies the brakes and generates steering torque to help the driver keep the vehicle in the lane or on the road.

  • The system uses a windshield-mounted camera to look for lane markers, and a steering-wheel actuator. The system is able to identify Botts’ Dots and other lane markings, and works at speeds of 45–90 mph (72–145 km/h).
  • If Road Departure Mitigation determines that the vehicle is deviating from a detected lane with no turn signal activation by the driver, or the vehicle is leaving the roadway, it will apply the brakes and attempt to steer the vehicle back into the proper lane.
  • Road Departure Mitigation setting is Warning Only: The system beeps and a message appears in the MID.
  • Road Departure Mitigation setting is Normal or Wide: The steering wheel vibrates, the system beeps, and a message appears in the MID. Braking may also be applied if the lane lines are solid and continuous.

BENEFIT: Road Departure Mitigation26 (part of the AcuraWatch™ suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies) helps to alert the driver to undesired lane or road departures, and takes active countermeasures to help the driver bring the vehicle back into its lane of travel.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and Tire Fill Assist

FEATURE: Located in the Multi-Information Display (MID), the TPMS21 graphic indicates the pressure in all four tires on a real-time basis. A TPMS icon illuminates to alert the driver whenever any of the tires has a significantly low-pressure reading that requires the driver’s attention.

  • Tire Fill Assist sounds a chime at a steady interval while the tire is being filled with air. When the chime repeats rapidly, the appropriate tire pressure has been reached.

BENEFIT: TPMS21 helps the driver maintain proper air pressure to improve driving safety and fuel efficiency3, as well as reduce wear and tear on the vehicle’s tires.

Tire Sealant and Inflator Kit

FEATURE: The Tire Sealant and Inflator Kit provides an auxiliary air or tire sealant to fill or repair a tire puncture when traveling on the road. Lifting the cargo floor reveals the Tire Sealant and Inflator Kit. The kit contains a 12-volt compressor, an air pressure gauge and tire sealant in a compact, lightweight package. Two hoses are available, one for air only and one for air and sealant.

  • To operate the Tire Sealant and Inflator Kit, remove it from the trunk and place it next to the tire needing repair. Next, plug the power cord into the 12-volt power outlet located in the center console and start the vehicle’s engine.
  • Air Only: To add air to a low tire, select AIR ONLY on the rotary dial. Attach the [black] AIR ONLY hose to the tire’s valve stem and turn the inflator switch to the ON position. Continue to add air to the tire until the Tire Fill Assist sounds. To check that the pressure gauge reaches the proper inflation pressure, turn off the compressor and read the gauge. When the desired pressure is reached, detach the hose and return the unit to the vehicle’s trunk.
  • Sealant and Air: To seal a punctured tire, select SEALANT AND AIR on the rotary dial. Attach the [clear] SEALANT AND AIR hose to the tire’s valve stem and turn the inflator switch to the ON position. When the sealant injection is complete, continue to add air to the tire until the Tire Fill Assist sounds. To check that the tire has reached its proper inflation pressure, turn off the compressor and read the gauge. When the desired pressure is reached, detach the hose and return the unit to the vehicle’s trunk. Apply the speed restriction label to the inside of the left windshield pillar before driving the vehicle
  • To distribute the sealant in the tire, drive the vehicle for approximately 10 minutes without exceeding 50 mph. Stop and recheck the air pressure by attaching the [black] AIR ONLY hose on the Tire Sealant and Inflator Kit. If the tire pressure has not gone down after 10 minutes of driving, continue to the nearest dealer or tire repair facility. If the tire’s pressure has gone down but is above 19 psi, add air, drive another 5 minutes and check the pressure again. If the tire’s pressure is 19 psi or below, do not add air or continue driving the vehicle. Instead, contact a dealer or a Roadside Assistance to have the vehicle towed.
  • The Tire Sealant and Inflator Kit should not be used in the following situations:
  • The tire sealant has expired. (The date is printed on the sealant bottle.)
  • More than one tire is punctured.
  • The puncture or cut is larger than 3/16 inch (4 mm).
  • The tire sidewall is damaged or the puncture is outside the tire tread contact area.
  • Damage has been caused by driving with the tire extremely under-inflated.
  • The tire bead is no longer seated.
  • The rim is damaged.
  • Do not remove a nail or screw that has punctured the tire. If removed, the tire may not be repairable using the Tire Sealant and Inflator Kit.
  • Available for purchase is a compact Accessory Spare Tire Kit. All vehicles have a dedicated storage area and anchoring point located below the cargo floor. If a compact spare tire is used, the under-floor storage or available cargo bin system will need to be removed. A vehicle jack and lug wrench will also be included in the Accessory Spare Tire Kit.

BENEFIT: The Tire Sealant and Inflator Kit is easy to use and provides peace of mind should an underinflated tire or puncture occur on the road.
