Super Handling All-Wheel Drive

Precise control has reached a new zenith with enhanced Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®)-the ultimate sport handling choice for the TLX. This sophisticated system is designed to boost high-performance dry-road handling while providing the same all-weather advantages of conventional all-wheel drive. By continuously directing engine power to match weight distribution, available traction, driver input and other conditions, SH-AWD® provides seamless power transitions and liberating agility. The sensation delivered by such high-performance cornering simply cannot be matched by front, rear or conventional all-wheel drive systems.

  • The system continuously determines the optimal level of power distribution between the front and rear wheels-and between the rear wheels individually-based on a continuous analysis of wheel speed, steering angle, lateral G-force and yaw rate.
  • To greatly improve fuel efficiency, up to 90% of the power is sent to the front wheels when cruising in a straight line.
  • As weight shifts to the rear during hard acceleration, the SH-AWD® system transfers up to 45% of engine power to the rear wheels and takes full advantage of additional, available traction.
  • On a curve under hard acceleration, the TLX feels firmly planted, because 70% of effective torque can be directed to the rear wheels. And all of that torque can be applied exclusively to the outside wheel, which improves cornering ability by allocating power where the weight has shifted.
  • SH-AWD® on the TLX even further reduces understeer and increases stability by revolving the outside rear wheel up to 2.7% faster than the other wheels, helping rotate the vehicle through the turn.

Precision All-Wheel Steer

Standard on both 4-cylinder and V-6 models, Precision All-Wheel Steer™ (P-AWS®) delivers unprecedented handling. It is the first all-wheel steer system that enables the rear wheels to adjust toe angles independently. Working in concert with Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®)1 and the Agile Handling Assist® dynamic braking system, P-AWS® enhances maneuverability, control and stability, as well.

  • The rear wheels can pivot up to 1.8 degrees in the same direction as the front wheels, allowing smooth, stable and quick lane changes at highway speeds.
  • When cornering, the rear wheels angle slightly in the opposite direction from the front wheels. Known as reverse-phase steering, this function helps rotate the car into the turn.
  • At low speeds, reverse-phase steering can help the TLX more easily navigate tight parking lots.
  • During high-speed braking, each rear wheel angles inward. The additional friction increases braking ability and stability.

Integrated Dynamic System

Gone are the days when a dynamic driving experience was limited to Drive, 1st, 2nd and possibly 3rd. With the new Integrated Dynamic System (IDS), TLX owners not only enjoy an 8-speed dual-clutch or 9-speed automatic transmission, but four unique driving modes: Normal, Economy, Sport and Sport+. One for every mood, you might say.

  • The IDS button on the center console lets the driver cycle through the driving modes and view them on the Multi-Information Display (MID).
  • NORMAL – A balanced, Acura-level mix of comfort and handling. “Just right,” you could call it.
  • ECONOMY – To maximize fuel efficiency, Economy mode reduces sensitivity to minor throttle input changes, allowing more consistent engine speed. Automatic climate control is also dialed back to ease load on the engine.
  • SPORT – The power steering assist is reduced to increase steering feel and feedback. Response levels for P-AWS® or SH-AWD® and the Drive-by-Wire™ throttle are heightened. Active Sound Control is diminished to let in more of the beautiful engine note.
  • SPORT+ – While maintaining Sport levels and easing climate control, Sport+ adds a much more aggressive-and much more fun-shifting algorithm. This is the way to experience the full potential of the TLX.

Agile Handling Assist

Take a corner like a professional driver. Agile Handling Assist® uses components of the Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®)1Suspension Systems

Ride comfort and ride control. It is the perfect balance of these two characteristics that distinguishes a genuine sports sedan, for driver as well as passenger. Both comfort and control were top of mind when Acura engineers developed the front and rear suspensions on the TLX.

  • For front-wheel drive P-AWS® models, the front MacPherson struts have been tuned to reduce torque steer and distracting steering wheel vibration.
  • Both the front strut and multi-link rear systems are mounted on separate sub-frames, connected to the body by hydraulic mounts. This solution noticeably improves ride comfort.
  • The rear suspension on SH-AWD® models, plus the rear sub-frame mounting points, are tuned specifically to accommodate the additional forces generated from the driven rear wheels.
  • The Amplitude Reactive Dampers feature one internal spring to absorb road irregularities, like potholes and expansion joints, and a second stiffer spring to control larger body movements during hard cornering.

Steering System

The finely tuned Motion-Adaptive Electronic Power Steering system enhances driver-vehicle synergy. With Integrated Dynamics System (IDS) standard on all TLX models, drivers can even select the type of steering they want to experience.

  • Motion-Adaptive control logic helps distinguish between desired and undesired road feedback, resulting in more accurate steering feel in every driving environment.
  • IDS provides a lighter steering feel in Economy and Normal settings but a significantly firmer feel in Sport and Sport+ mode.
  • A quick steering ratio gives a sporty response to any input.
  • Power steering assist varies with vehicle speed. In parking lots at low speed, all IDS settings offer light steering feel. On the highway, the feeling is much firmer.
  • A cast magnesium brace supports the steering column and reduces steering vibration not related to road feel.

Performance Braking

The state-of-the-art TLX braking system mirrors the sophisticated engine, transmission and suspension systems. Braking is highly effective-and easily controlled-on a sunny, rainy or snowy day. Tuned to provide precise modulation, the system also delivers supreme confidence during spirited driving.

  • The ventilated front discs measure 12.6 inches in diameter. The solid rear discs are 12.2 inches.
  • To satisfy the enthusiast driver, brake pedal feel is firm with short pedal travel.
  • Reduced running resistance (brake pads contacting brake discs) increases mpg.

Rigid Body Structure

The Challenge: Less weight, greater rigidity and improved impact viability. The Solution: Computer mapping of stress points and an amalgamation of aluminum, magnesium and seven grades of high strength steel.

  • To reduce weight, approximately 59% of the body structure is constructed of lightweight, hot-stamped steel, aluminum or magnesium.
  • The TLX features a hot-stamped front door frame. Rare in the industry, the single piece unit improves fit and finish and allows smoother energy transfer during impacts.
  • The structure is high in body torsion rigidity to allow more precise suspension tuning and to reduce the squeaks and rattles common to all multi-part metal objects.

Smooth & Quiet Ride

From engine to suspension to body structure, at every stage of design and development, Acura engineers worked to make the high-performing TLX a quiet, comfortable road companion.

  • The TLX is the first Acura with acoustic, noise-dampening foam introduced into the unibody at ten strategic junctures around the passenger cabin.
  • The windshield is made of sound-absorbing acoustic glass.
  • Each door is triple-sealed. Foam barriers help seal the inner door panels around windows and locking mechanisms.
  • Special insulators have been applied to the rear wheelhouse and rear floor.

2.4-Liter Engine

The standard TLX engine is anything but standard. The aluminum block, direct-injected 2.4-liter inline-four powerplant delivers 206 high-revving horsepower, 182 lb. ft. of torque (both SAE net) and best-in-class thrills per mile. Its light weight helps make handling nimble and fuel economy ratings notable.

  • Intelligent Variable Timing and lift Control (i-VTEC®) increases horsepower by opening intake valves longer and deeper at approximately 4500 rpm and above. This high rpm airflow is further enhanced by Variable Timing Control which incrementally advances the opening of intake valves as rpm rises.
  • For a more precise, effective air/fuel mixture, Direct Gas Injection sends fuel directly into each cylinder through a multi-hole injector. It addition to added performance, this process significantly lessens fuel consumption at engine start.
  • Fuel directly injected into a cylinder has a cooling effect, allowing power-increasing higher compression with no engine knocking.
  • The engine’s rigid aluminum block reduces weight for improved handling.
Reduced friction equals increased fuel efficiency. Here are a few ways it’s done on the TLX:

    • Offset cylinders
    • Low-tension piston rings
    • Double-arm chain system
    • Exclusive belt layout for EPS
  • The added throttle sensitivity of the Drive-by-Wire™ system supplies exceptional throttle response and driver feel when navigating challenging conditions.
  • The TLX is efficiently fun with an EPA Fuel Economy Rating2 of 24/ 35 / 28 mpg (city/highway/combined).

3.5-Liter Engine

The optional-and exceptional-engine choice for the TLX is a highly potent 3.5-liter, 290-horsepower V-6 engine with direct fuel injection, Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM®) and an i-VTEC® system.

  • Intelligent Variable Timing and lift Control (i-VTEC®) increases horsepower by opening intake valves longer and deeper at approximately 4500 rpm. This high rpm airflow is further enhanced by Variable Timing Control which incrementally advances the opening of intake valves as rpm rises.
  • At 60 mph on the highway, Variable Cylinder Management™ improves highway fuel efficiency by allowing the V-6 to run on three cylinders, depending on driving conditions. Accelerate to pass a slow-moving vehicle, and the system fires all six cylinders. The transition is imperceptible to the driver and passengers.
  • For a more precise, effective air/fuel mixture, direct injection sends fuel directly into each cylinder through a multi-hole injector. It addition to added performance, this process significantly lessens fuel consumption at engine start.
  • Fuel directly injected into a cylinder has a cooling effect, allowing power-increasing higher compression with no engine knocking.
  • The added throttle sensitivity of the Drive-by-Wire™ system supplies exceptional throttle response and driver feel when navigating challenging conditions.
  • The net result: 290 horsepower at 6200 rpm, 267 lbs.-ft. of torque at 4500 rpm (both SAE net), and EPA Fuel Economy Ratings2 of 21 / 34 / 25 mpg (city/highway/combined) for the front-drive models and 21 / 31 / 25 mpg for SH-AWD models.

8-Speed DCT (Dual-Clutch Transmission)

It is the newest and most sophisticated Acura transmission. Originally developed for racing, the dual-clutch design shifts faster, smoother and with greater efficiency than conventional automatic transmissions. Drivers will find it a perfect fit for the high-revving inline-four.

  • Unlike a conventional automatic, the new transmission change gears though clutches-much more like a manual transmission, rather than just a torque converter.
  • The transmission has one clutch for odd-numbered gears (1, 3, 5, 7) and a second for even (2, 4, 6, 8). While one clutch is engaged with the currently operating gear, sensors predict if the next gear change will be an upshift or a downshift. The second clutch then prepares the next gear ratio for engagement. When the shift occurs, it is instant, with negligible loss of engine torque.
  • Eight gear ratios keep the 2.4-liter engine running at or near peak efficiency at nearly all speeds.
  • Because dual-clutch transmissions have been known to shift roughly, particularly from a stop (think: novice learning to shift manually), Acura took the unusual step of maintaining a torque converter for a smoother launch.
  • Paddle shifters bring out the true performance potential of this new 8-Speed DCT. Shifts are lightning fast, taking only milliseconds. (By comparison, a typical driver’s manual shift takes about a half second.) Such quick response shifting makes lively acceleration out of a turn or engine braking down a mountain road particularly satisfying.
  • In Normal, Economy and Sport Integrated Dynamics System (IDS) driving modes, the paddle shifters bring about a quick gear change and return to automatic operation when the TLX has settled into cruising speed. In Sport+ mode, however, the transmission remains completely manual, only returning to first gear after a complete stop.

9-Speed Automatic Transmission

The all-new 9-speed automatic transmission with Sequential SportShift paddle shifters is extraordinarily smooth, just like the 3.5-liter V-6 to which it’s partnered. In automatic mode, the TLX driver can choose between economical or sport shifting. Paddle shifters put full manual control right at your fingertips.

  • An electronic gear selector offers intuitive, one-touch gear engagement and increases access to the center stack and center console.
  • Pushing “Drive” delivers smooth gear changes with an emphasis on fuel efficiency. Selecting Sport+ Integrated Dynamics System (IDS) mode brings on quicker downshifts and higher RPMs before upshifts.
  • Tapping a paddle shifter in Normal, Economy or Sport IDS driving mode engages a manual gear change. Thus, quick gear changes are always available without switching in and out of manual mode. Automatic shifting returns when the TLX reaches a steady speed.
  • Using a paddle shifter in Sport+ puts the transmission in full manual mode, greatly enhancing control for high-performance or hilly driving.
  • Grade Logic Control instructs the transmission to hold a gear at higher rpm on a steep uphill or downhill grade.
  • To avoid disrupting the chassis or power delivery, Shift Hold Control delays up-shifting when the driver accelerates through a curve.
  • Hill start assist eases starts on inclines. Sensing an uphill grade, the system holds brake pressure momentarily while foot moves from the brake pedal to gas pedal.

Lighting & Visibility

Rear Cross Traffic Monitor

Whether backing out of parking space or onto a busy street, the TLX has your back.

  • Sensors located near the rear corners of the car can detect approaching vehicles from either side of the parking lot lane.
  • The monitor is particularly useful when other parked vehicles hinder side-to-side vision.
  • With the Multi-view rear camera4 in Normal or Wide mode, the driver is alerted to a detected, approaching vehicle by an audible chime and amber arrows in the rear camera monitor.

Multi-View Rear Camera With Dynamic Guidelines

The rear camera4 produces a center screen display whenever “Reverse” is engaged. Three separate views allow the driver to select one to best serve the situation. Pressing “Enter” on the center panel cycles through the camera options.

  • Items too low to be seen through the rear window are easily seen in Normal view.
  • When backing out of parking spots, Wide Angle reveals 170° behind the TLX-perfect to look for approaching vehicles or pedestrians.
  • The Top-Down view is particularly useful for parallel parking.
  • To help guide trajectory and judge distances, dynamic guidelines can be activated. They move according to front wheel angle.

Jewel Eye LED Headlights

Stunning, highly illuminating Jewel Eye® LED headlights are standard equipment on all Acura models. For the TLX, five LEDs per side provide a whiter, brighter beam, use less energy and last significantly longer than HID or traditional halogen headlights.

  • On low beam, the three outer LEDs on each light reveal the road more clearly without blinding oncoming traffic. The lenses are precisely aimed, yet focus the LED beam over a longer, wider area.
  • Engaging the high beams adds the two inner LEDs, illuminating distant objects 200 milliseconds sooner than conventional lights. At 60 mph, 200 milliseconds is over 17 feet.
  • All LED lenses can act as daytime running lights, giving the TLX a distinctive light signature even in bright sunlight.
  • When the lights are turned off, reflective surfaces behind the lenses contribute to the bright, jewel-like appearance.

Keyless Access System

Approach the TLX with the key in your pocket, and the Keyless Access System will unlock the doors, set your climate, seat and music preferences and let you start the car with the push of a button.

  • The vehicle senses the key remote but won’t unlock the door until you touch the handle.
  • Engine and auxiliary controls can be turned on and off at the touch of a button.
  • Touching the driver’s door handle adjusts the seats, steering wheel, and side mirrors to your preferred settings. Radio presets (AM, FM and SiriusXM® Satellite Radio3), speed dial and navigation locations (if equipped) are also activated.
  • Inside, the Multi-Information Display (located between the speedometer and tachometer) informs you to start the car by pushing the start button while applying brake pressure.
  • When leaving the car, pushing a button on the outer door handle locks the vehicle.
  • To cool the car on a hot day, you can lower all the windows and open the sunroof by pressing the unlock button on the remote a second time and holding it as you approach the vehicle.

Rain-Sensing Wipers

Windshield wipers are generally taken for granted, but the TLX wipers offer some unexpected sophistication.

  • A flat design enhances the clean exterior appearance.
  • Activating the wipers automatically turns on the headlights after five wipes, helping drivers comply with regulations in many states. The headlights will turn off two-and-a-half minutes after the last wipe.
  • The windshield rain sensors turn on the wipers automatically when rain is detected.
  • The shaped, articulated wiper arms give greater coverage than conventional wipers.

Remote Engine Start

With the Advance Package, the remote engine start can warm up the engine and heat or cool the cabin.

  • From up to 328 feet (100 meters), you can remotely start the engine using the two-way keyless access remote, depending on terrain or building obstruction.
  • The climate control is automatically set to 72 degrees, pre-conditioning the TLX interior to a comfortable temperature. In cold weather, seat heaters activate while the defrost function works to clear the windshield.
  • The car can be driven only when the TLX detects the remote inside the car.
  • LED lights on the remote inform the driver of the ignition status.Although the security system remains active during remote start, the wipers, audio and lighting are disengaged.

Like all Acura models, the TLX dashboard is designed to furnish a rewarding environment. High-tech bling and futuristic shapes give way to intuitive controls conceived to facilitate the art of driving.

  • The On Demand Multi-Use Display™ (ODMD™) touchscreen contains primary controls for audio and climate functions, freeing up the principal display screen for at-a-glance viewing and information relating to (or independent from) the lower touchscreen.
  • From the steering wheel, drivers can operate the most frequently used functions. Traditional hard climate controls are located on the center panel.
Beautifully lit analog gauges display road and engine speeds, temperature and fuel level.
  • The Multi-Information Display (MID), between the speedometer and tachometer, can be controlled from the steering wheel and provides a wealth of information-from tire pressure to average mpg. On navigation-equipped models, the full-color MID can show turn-by-turn directions.
  • The HomeLink® system lets you consolidate garage or gate remotes by programming up to three distinct frequencies.

On Demand Multi-Use Display

Leading the way in audio and information technology has its advantages-and its challenges. As the number of features continued to increase, Acura designers foresaw a very crowded center panel. The solution is an intuitive touchscreen called On Demand Multi-Use Display™ (ODMD™)-a system that consolidates the controls drivers need at any given moment. What could have been more than 40 buttons has been simplified to nine.

  • Up to 11 different audio sources from FM or XM radio to USB drive or CD, or even possible smart-phone apps like Pandora12 and Aha can be accessed directly. You no longer need to repeatedly hit a button to rotate your desired audio source into place.
  • So every panel can be quickly understood and operated, each display is uniquely designed for the particular task.
  • Six hard controls and nine near-permanent ODMD™ touchscreen controls make every climate control function instantly accessible.
  • A Shortcut button gives quick access to your favorite audio presets, climate control combinations, navigation locations or speed-dial favorites.
  • When valet parking, another shortcut lets you disable access to various locations and functions, including trunk and glove box, navigation, phone and audio controls.
  • The ODMD™ can instantly display a current status for audio and climate functions without disturbing the upper display screen. This feature is particularly useful when navigating to a new location.

SMS / Email / Siri Eyes Free

Handheld texting while driving is illegal in most states and highly dangerous in all states. The integrated SMS text message and email function11 enables you to respond to incoming text messages while following the law and mitigating potential driver distraction. Drivers with paired, Siri-equipped iPhones®7 can also use voice-command to perform these (and other) functions.

  • When driving with a paired, activated, SMS-compatible phone, the system notifies you of an incoming text message, then asks if you want the message read to you.
  • After the message is read aloud, six pre-prepared responses appear on the center display, i.e. “On my way.” The system also offers a call-back option.
  • Currently the system is compatible with certain Blackberry phones, Android and other smartphones using the MAP protocol. Other models with the required messaging protocol are expected to enter the market in the future.
  • If you have an iPhone®7 with Siri, you can ask the familiar, friendly interface to perform multiple functions, including reading and sending texts and emails, checking weather, sports scores and stock quotes, making calendar appointments, and even receiving turn-by-turn navigation instructions.
  • Many state or local laws restrict the texting feature. Only use it when conditions allow you to do so safely.

GPS-Linked Climate Control

To maximize passenger comfort on short trips or long, the TLX features dual-zone, adaptive automatic climate control, allowing the driver and front passenger to adjust their own temperature and airflow settings. With the Technology Package and above, a solar sensor measures the sun’s intensity to determine its impact on interior temperature, while the GPS receiver on the Acura Navigation System8 tracks the sun’s position relative to the car.

  • As you approach, the TLX detects which remote you have and automatically sets your preferred climate-control settings.
  • When driving alone, all climate zones can synchronize to a single setting.
  • Adjustable vents behind the center console allow rear passengers to direct and control airflow.
  • Almost all climate control functions can be voice-activated.

Electronic Gear Selector

The 9-speed transmission on V-6 models replaces the traditional shift knob with a sleek, convenient, button-control panel known as the electronic gear selector.

  • The intuitive gear selection system uses pushbuttons for Drive, Neutral and Park, while using pull-levers for Reverse and the Parking Brake.
  • Lower gears can be accessed with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
  • The electronic gear selector creates open space between the driver and passenger and eliminates interference with low-mounted controls and cup-holders.

Voice Recognition

In addition to the sophisticated, new touchscreen and versatile steering wheel-mounted controls, the voice recognition feature allows you to perform the most frequently used audio, climate, and navigation functions without ever lifting a finger. Speak and it will be done.

  • With a simple click of the steering wheel-mounted “Talk” control, the audio system instantly mutes so you can issue one of over 200 voice commands (with thousands of variations) to the audio, climate or navigation systems.
  • If you come to an unfamiliar navigation screen, voiced guidance prompts can help. The available command choices are also highlighted.
  • Some simple commands replace multiple manual functions. For example: “CD, song 4”, will turn on the audio system, select CD as an audio source and play the fourth song. That’s three-for-one efficiency.
  • Don’t worry about entering a specific address. The navigation system recognizes over a million city, street and location names.
  • This is the latest edition of the voice recognition system Acura has been refining for over a decade.

Bluetooth HandsFreeLink

Check in with the office and never take your eyes off the road. The Bluetooth®9 HandsFreeLink® system works with most Bluetooth-enabled cell phones and lets you initiate and receive calls using the TLX audio system.

  • With a compatible phone, a simple one-time pairing process connects your phone to the car. The downloadable AcuraLink app for Apple® and Android smartphones makes pairing, among other functions, even easier. As long as your phone’s Bluetooth is enabled, the TLX automatically reconnects your phone without it ever leaving your pocket or purse.
  • Whether you initiate or receive a call, the audio system will automatically mute so the call can be heard through the audio system speakers. Sophisticated directional microphones ensure your voice is clearly received on the other end.
  • Up to six phones can be paired to the system. If you are traveling with a spouse and your two teenagers, you can easily select which phone will be connected, and also change the selection at any time.
  • View and operate HandsFreeLink functions through the navigation screen. If an incoming call is on your speed-dial list, the number will display.
  • All of the numbers on your compatible phone can be downloaded at one time into the navigation system’s8 hard drive.

Front Seats

Front seat design focuses not only on comfort but performance as well. For example, both front seats feature pronounced side bolsters, providing lateral support for hard cornering and ample comfort for long road trips.

  • Advanced seat frames and power adjustment features help reduce flex in seat movement, imparting a stable, substantial feel.
  • The driver’s seat is 10-way adjustable including power lumbar support.
  • The front passenger enjoys 4-way power adjustability on 4-cylinder models and 8-way adjustability on V-6 models.
  • Both front seats have three levels of heating. The Advance Package adds three levels of ventilation. Ventilation works by drawing air into the seats through tiny perforations in the leather. These adjustments of seat climate let you reach desired comfort quickly and efficiently.
  • For supreme convenience, the 2-driver automatic memory system records preferences for the driver’s seat, steering wheel, side mirrors and more.

Rear Seats

Comfortable and versatile, the TLX rear seat easily accommodates three adults or-with the 60/40 seats folded down-three card tables.

  • Although smaller than the TL model it replaces, the TLX offers identical rear legroom.
  • Models with the Technology Package have soft, perforated leather seating surfaces.
  • The center armrest folds down to provide cup holders and can act as a stand for iPad®7 or other tablet devices.
  • 60/40 split fold-down rear seatbacks add cargo-carrying flexibility.

Cargo Area

They say you can’t take it with you. They obviously never opened the trunk of the TLX.

  • Opening the trunk lid reveals a wide opening with low lift-over height. The well-organized cargo area features a flat floor and very useful side cubbies.
  • Additional hidden space found under the truck floor is useful for concealing valuable items. Lift the floor to reveal two cargo compartments, then lift back further to reveal tire repair equipment and another storage compartment.
  • Advance Package models feature a deep storage bin under the floor, plus one additional shallower bin. The bin storage cover is reversible. Its smooth surface can be easily cleaned after holding messy items. The Advance Package also increases cargo space from 13.2 cu.ft. to 14.3 cu.ft. by providing additional space under the floor.

Cabin Storage

The TLX cabin houses intelligently designed storage spaces to limit clutter and enhance luxury.

  • The connectivity pocket in the center console includes a USB6 and two 12V power outlets. Once connected, place your phone or other device on the sliding tray. The wires will stay hidden underneath. Or hide it all under a compartment cover that matches the center console finish.
  • Under a well-padded armrest, the center console storage area contains another 12V power outlet and auxiliary audio input jack, as well as a coin tray and a light for nighttime visibility.
  • The illuminated glove box has a dedicated shelf for the owner’s manual. If you require a larger, undivided space, the shelf can be reconfigured easily.
  • The center storage compartment also has a deep bin for large items like tablets or purses. The console armrest/storage cover is double-hinged, opening in either direction for the driver or front passenger.

  • Helpful icons identify traffic incidents and traffic conditions affected by construction and weather.
  • The system can list traffic-impacting collisions and construction zones in your surrounding area.
  • If an alternate route is at least two minutes or 10% quicker, Traffic Rerouting™13 will suggest it.

AcuraLink The Next Generation

A whole new generation of AcuraLink®15 graces the TLX. Thanks to an embedded cellular device, this AcuraLink system now features two-way communication, making it even more versatile. In an emergency, location and diagnostic information can be sent and retrieved from the car. Greater interaction with a smartphone enables even more available services. While many AcuraLink features are complimentary, others require a subscription. Some of the systems highlights are:

  • The TLX can relay an emergency notification if an airbag deploys. (Cellular connection required.)
  • If the TLX is stolen, its location can be tracked.
  • AcuraLink Real-Time Traffic™13 now shows traffic levels on busy side streets as well as freeways.
  • A location on your smartphone can be sent to the navigation system as a ready-to-drive route.
  • As part of a subscription service, a live concierge can help you make restaurant reservations and then send directions to the navigation system.
Vehicle doors can be remotely locked or unlocked using a smartphone.

Destination Database

Looking for the best art museum on your first visit to a new town? The Acura Navigation System8 has an extensive database of business addresses and points of interest.

  • The Acura Navigation System can be quite specific. It can not only show you nearby ATMs, it can show you only your bank’s ATM locations and save you one of those service charges.
  • Locate schools, parks, hospitals, drugstores, museums, sushi bars and water slides.
  • Since destinations change over time, regular updates can be downloaded then uploaded to the navigation hard drive.

Driver Assistance

Lane Keeping Assist System

It’s the best kind of backseat driver. Using a forward-facing camera mounted above the inside rear view mirror, the Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)18 works proactively to keep the TLX centered in a detected lane.

  • If the LKAS system has been engaged and you start to drift away from the middle of the lane, it will gently apply steering torque and help guide the car back to the center of the lane.
  • Though the system initiates a slight tug, the driver can easily hold course, as the system will not take control of the wheel.
  • The system will not steer the car indefinitely. If it senses no steering input from the driver for a certain period of time, the system presents a message instructing the driver to begin steering again.
  • If you steer the TLX out of a detected lane without signaling your intention, the Lane Departure Warning system will give you an audio alert and a message on the MID.

Adaptive Cruise Control With Low-Speed Follow

Conventional cruise control has always been welcome on long highway trips but is of little use on an urban driver’s daily commute. Available Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with low-speed follow16 allows you to set a desired speed but also maintain a desired interval to the car ahead. Now you enjoy the benefits of cruise control in light traffic.

  • While cruising, engage the ACC and the system prompts you to select a short, medium, long or extra long interval to a vehicle detected ahead.
  • Once speed is set (between 25 and 90 mph), you can raise or lower it with the steering-wheel controls. Your speed setting is revealed on the MID.
  • At speeds below the set speed, ACC maintains the set interval from a car detected ahead, modulating the throttle and applying moderate braking where appropriate. The interval can be maintained down to and including a full stop.
  • After stopping, tapping either the throttle or pressing the SET or RES buttons on the steering wheel, instructs the TLX to reacquire the desired interval.

Blind Spot Information System

The Blind Spot Information (BSI) system is your second pair of eyes during lane changes.

  • If the system detects a vehicle in the adjacent lane’s “alert zone”, an indicator appears on that side’s windshield pillar and also on the MID screen.
  • If the driver activates the turn signal in the direction a vehicle has been detected, the pillar indicator on the corresponding side flashes and a warning beep sounds.
  • So the indicators don’t come on at stoplights, when parking, or when traveling in stop-and-go traffic, the system is only active when the TLX is traveling over 20 mph.

Forward Collision Warning System

If momentarily distracted, a state-of-the-art warning system can alert you to a potentially dangerous situation ahead. The Forward Collision Warning (FCW) system17-using both visual and audible warning-alerts you to a potential collision with a vehicle detected ahead.

  • FCW can detect vehicles directly in front of the TLX. If the distance between the two vehicles is diminishing, the system compares the vehicles’ current speeds to determine if a collision may occur.
  • To alert the driver to apply the brakes, FCW issues a beeping sound and flashes an amber “Brake” message in the Multi-Information Display. Advance Package-equipped models also project an amber warning image on the windshield.
  • To avoid unnecessary warnings, the FCW will not operate at speeds below 3 mph.

Parking Sensors

TLX has your back-and your front. To lessen the risk of a scratched bumper, the Advance Package includes front and rear parking sensors.

  • Sensors detect a close vehicle or surface at the front or rear.
  • When the TLX is very close to a detected obstruction, a beep sounds in the cabin. The beep increases in urgency as you get closer.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System With Tire Fill Assist

Improperly inflated tires adversely affect vehicle control and lessen fuel efficiency. The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with tire fill assist can detect the condition and then help you fill the tire(s) to the correct pressure.

  • Pressure sensors in each wheel send readings to a central electronic control unit which evaluates whether the pressure is in an acceptable range. If a reading is significantly below the recommended level, the TLX alerts you on the Multi-Information Display (MID). The problem tire-along with the individual pressure for all four tires- is indicated.
  • Stop at the gas station to fill your tire, and you hear a chime at a steady interval. At the appropriate pressure the chime repeats rapidly, informing you to stop.
  • While TMPS is extremely helpful, we recommend manually checking the tires on a regular basis.

Safety & Security

Seat Belts And Airbags

Seat belts are the first line of defense in a collision. Hence, all TLX seating positions have 3-point belts and head restraints. The front seats also have a load-limiting tensioner system. Each airbag features a highly sophisticated deployment system.

  • In the first milliseconds of a sufficient impact, tensioners automatically tighten the front belts to help hold the occupant in position against the seatback.
  • To help prevent the tensioners from causing undue pressure on the chest, load limiters slightly relieve belt tension, as needed, to help soften the force.
  • In addition to two front airbags, two front-side airbags and two side airbags, the TLX is equipped with a driver’s knee airbag to help properly position the driver.
  • Sensors in the front passenger seat determine if it is empty or if the passenger is too small for the passenger’s front airbag to deploy safely, and will disengage the front passenger’s front airbag, if necessary.
  • In the event of a moderate-to-severe side impact, the SmartVent™ front side airbag inflates to help protect the driver’s or front passenger’s upper torso.

Child Safety

The TLX is approved for precious cargo. Several features specifically address child safety.

  • All three rear-seat positions are LATCH-equipped (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children), allowing LATCH-compatible child seats to be installed without using the seat belts.
  • All windows and the moonroof have an auto-reverse feature to prevent them from closing on small fingers-or big ones.

Body Structure Design

To enhance occupant protection and crash compatibility in frontal collisions, the TLX features the next generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure.

  • The ACE™ design utilizes a network of connected structural elements to distribute crash energy more evenly throughout the front of the vehicle.
  • This new generation ACE™ incorporates extra braces at the front corners to absorb and distribute impact energy from narrow off-set collisions, in which a small portion at one side of the front end must absorb the collision forces.
  • The outer braces are designed to transfer impact load toward the center of the frame where the energy can be distributed around the cabin area more evenly.
  • This enhanced frontal crash energy management helps to reduce the forces transferred to the passenger compartment and can help to more evenly disperse the forces transferred to other vehicles in a crash.

Braking & Stability

Collision Mitigation Braking System

To help reduce the likelihood or severity of a frontal impact, the Advance Package features the Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™).

  • Powered by a combination of radar transmitter and forward-facing camera, the CMBS™ determines the distance and closing speed of detected objects that lie directly ahead.
  • If you do not take action to reduce speed, the CMBS™ automatically tugs the seat belt and begins light braking.
  • When the system senses that a frontal collision is unavoidable, and even if no prior alerts have been given, the front seat belts tighten, and strong braking is automatically applied to help reduce the impact velocity and collision force.
  • The goal of the CMBS™ is to alert the driver to apply the brakes. The system assists but is not expected to always avoid a collision on its own.
To avoid unnecessary warnings, CMBS will not operate at speeds below 3 mph.

Road Departure Mitigation System

The highly capable, road-hugging TLX prefers pavement.

  • The Road Departure Mitigation system uses a camera to identify lane markers such as painted lane lines, Botts Dots and cat eye markers..
  • When the system detects the TLX is about to leave the road, it warns the driver with an MID warning message, an amber head-up warning and a tightening of the seat belt.
  • The system then uses the active steering function of the Lane Keeping Assist system to guide the TLX back into its detected lane. If it determines that steering assistance will not suffice, it will apply braking to help keep the TLX from leaving the roadway altogether.

Vehicle Stability Assist

A standard feature that makes everyone a better driver. The Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®)1 system uses an array of sensors, along with ABS and if equipped, Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®) to reduce the dangers of oversteer or understeer.

  • VSA® continually monitors vehicle speed, throttle position, individual wheel speeds, steering angle, lateral G-force and yaw rate.
  • When the potential for oversteer or understeer is detected, the VSA® modulator reduces the engine’s torque and applies brakes to each wheel (as needed) to help stabilize the vehicle. AWD models first use SH-AWD® to maintain stability by redirecting power among the front wheels and each of the rear wheels.
  • VSA® response is so quick that instability may be corrected before the driver even knows it’s occurring.

Braking Systems

TLX disc brakes are complimented by several sophisticated electronic systems that enhance stopping performance in almost any circumstance.

  • The anti-lock braking system (ABS) helps you retain steering control when braking heavily, by preventing the wheels from locking up while still allowing them to achieve maximum stopping power.
  • The Electronic Brake Distribution system uses the ABS system to orchestrate braking power among the four wheels-depending on their load-to help optimize braking effectiveness.
  • The Brake Assist system detects emergency braking from the driver by monitoring the speed at which the brake pedal is depressed and stepping in to ensure the ABS system is activated. The system terminates immediately upon release of the brake pedal.
  • Brake Hold is particularly useful at long stop lights or in standstill traffic. With Brake Hold engaged after you come to a full stop, you can release your foot from the brake pedal. The brakes continue to hold the TLX in place until you push the accelerator pedal.

[1] VSA is not a substitute for safe driving. It cannot correct the vehicle’s course in every situation or compensate for reckless driving. Control of the vehicle always remains with the driver.
[16] Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) cannot detect all objects ahead and may not detect a given object; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and other factors. ACC should not be used in heavy traffic, poor weather or on winding roads. The driver remains responsible for avoiding a collision.
[17] Forward Collision Warning (FCW) cannot detect all objects ahead and may not detect a given object; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and other factors. System operation affected by high interior heat. FCW does not include a braking function. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.
[18] LKAS only assists driver in maintaining proper lane position when lane markings are identified without a turn signal in use and can only apply mild steering torque to assist. LKAS may not detect all lane markings; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and road condition. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.
