Variable Cylinder Management (VCM)
Maximizes power and fuel efficiency by unobtrusively switching between 3- and 6-cylinder operation.
- VCM® works in conjunction with the i-VTEC® system and Active Control engine Mounts (ACM) for seamless transition between 3- and 6-cylinder modes.
- When high power is required, the engine operates on all six cylinders.
- When power demands are low, the engine uses just one bank of three cylinders.
- Transition between 3- and 6-cylinder operation is usually imperceptible to the driver.
Idle Stop
Maximizes fuel efficiency in stop-and-go traffic by automatically turning the engine off when stopped in traffic, restarting it when needed – smoothly and seamlessly.
- After a stop, pressing the throttle automatically restarts the engine and the vehicle accelerates.
- System upgrades provide faster response and operational smoothness for a more natural, seamless feel.
- Active Control engine Mounts (ACM) help smooth the restart, so it’s unobtrusive to occupants.
- The air-conditioning system’s cold-storage evaporator helps maintain cabin temperature when stopped, even in warm weather.
3-Motor Hybrid System
The Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system combines small-engine efficiency with big-engine power; three electric motors enable the performance-enhancing capabilities of torque-vectoring all-wheel drive.
- One electric motor in the transmission case drives the front wheels and captures regenerative braking energy.

Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD)
Provides superior all-weather handling and neutral, accurate steering under power.
- SH-AWD® continually optimizes torque distribution between the front and rear axles, as well as the left and right rear wheels.
- SH-AWD can improve handling by accelerating the outside rear wheel in turns, generating more turning force than most other all-wheel-drive systems.
- With cornering forces more evenly distributed between front and rear wheels, overall cornering traction is increased – on wet or dry roads.
MODELS: MDX SH-AWD
Sport Hybrid Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD)
Drives each rear wheel with a computer-controlled electric motor for superior traction and handling in a much wider range of driving situations than any purely mechanical system.
- Each motor can apply power or capture regenerative braking energy.
- When cornering, power may be applied to the outside rear wheel while regenerative braking energy is captured from the inside rear wheel, helping steer the vehicle.
- Torque vectoring reduces front tire cornering loads, minimizing understeer and enhancing steering precision.
- The electric motors are lighter and more efficient than a conventional all-wheel drive system’s driveshaft and rear differential.
MODELS: MDX Sport Hybrid
MacPherson-Strut Front Suspension
Provides precise handling, responsive driving feel and luxurious ride quality.
- Specially tuned hydro-compliance bushings quiet NVH and improve resistance to wheel shimmy and brake judder.
- A large-diameter tubular (hollow) stabilizer bar reduces body roll when cornering.

Next-Generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) Body Structure
Enhances occupant protection and crash compatibility in frontal collisions, helping you feel more confident and secure on the road.
- The ACE body structure is the second generation of Acura’s proprietary body structure design.
- In the event of a frontal crash, ACE distributes crash energy more evenly throughout the front of the vehicle, helping reduce forces transferred to the passenger compartment.
- ACE also helps more evenly disperse forces transferred to other vehicles in a frontal crash with differing bumper heights. It helps reduce the chances that one vehicle will override another, improving the crash compatibility of vehicles that differ in size.
- Offers additional strength and protection in small-overlap frontal collisions, which are among the most severe because they bypass a vehicle’s main front structure.
Advanced Airbag System (SRS)
Supplements the seat belts to help reduce the likelihood of head and upper body injuries in frontal crashes.
- Weight sensors in the front passenger seat and a position sensor for the driver seat determine deployment mode for the driver’s and front-passenger’s front airbags.
Driver’s Knee Airbag
The knee airbag below the steering column is designed to help the driver maintain proper position in a frontal crash to maximize the protection provided by the front airbags and seat belt.
- The driver’s knee airbag will be deployed only in the event of a sufficient frontal impact.
Blind Spot Information System
Visible and audible cues alert you when signaling a lane change into an adjacent, occupied lane.16
- Radar sensors in the rear bumper can trigger an alert when another vehicle is detected alongside or just to the rear in an adjacent lane.
- A warning light near the outside rearview mirror can alert the driver to the detected vehicle on that side.
- If the turn signals are activated to indicate a lane change when a vehicle is detected alongside, the system will issue an audible tone as well.

Multi-View Rear Camera with Dynamic Guidelines
Enhance visibility and confidence when backing out of a parking space or driveway.33
- The rear camera image appears on the audio/information screen when the transmission is shifted into Reverse.
- Select the 130-degree normal view, 175-degree wide view or a top-down view of the parking area.
- On-screen guidelines indicate the vehicle’s width and make it easier to judge distances.
- With dynamic guidelines activated, on-screen lines move according to steering angle, projecting the vehicle’s trajectory.
MODELS: MDX with Standard, Technology, A-Spec or Entertainment Package, MDX Sport Hybrid
Rear Cross Traffic Monitor
Alerts you to detected vehicles crossing behind you backing out of a parking spot.33
- When you’re backing up, radar sensors located in the rear of the vehicle can detect a vehicle approaching from either side.
- When a vehicle is detected, a tone sounds and an on-screen alert appears in the rear camera monitor to indicate whether the vehicle is coming from the left or right.

Parking Sensors
Front and rear ultrasonic-wave parking sensors determine proximity of objects to the front and rear, and trigger an audible alert and warning icon in the Multi-Information Display (MID) if an obstacle is detected.
- The alert cadence varies depending on object distance.
- Slow, intermittent beeps sound when an object is first detected at a distance.
- Beeping cadence increases as the vehicle gets closer to the object.
- The system will sound a continuous tone when the object is within a few inches of the vehicle.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow
Helps maintain a set following interval when it approaches a detected vehicle ahead and can reduce the stress of driving in traffic.
- By combining radar and camera data with data from speed sensors, ACC34 can regulate vehicle speed to maintain a preset following interval.
- The low-speed follow feature can reduce driver workload in light traffic by maintaining a selected interval, even in stop-and-go traffic.
- If a vehicle detected ahead slows to a stop, the Acura vehicle will also come to a stop. With a press of the RES/+/SET switch up or down, or with a press of the accelerator pedal, the Acura vehicle will resume low-speed follow mode.
Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) and Forward Collision Warning
Alerts you to a potential collision and can reduce collision forces if one becomes unavoidable.
- CMBS™39 uses a front radar transceiver and forward-facing camera to determine the distance and closing speed of objects directly ahead.
- The system has three alert levels:
- STAGE 1
In the first stage, if there is a risk of a collision with a vehicle detected ahead, the system will flash a “Brake” warning in the Multi-Information Display.
- STAGE 2
If the risk of a collision has increased further and the driver still takes no action, the second stage will continue the visual and audible alerts, and apply light braking.
- STAGE 3
If the driver still has taken no action and the system determines that a collision is now unavoidable, CMBS will continue the visual and audible alerts, plus it will apply strong braking.
- The goal of CMBS is to alert you to apply the brakes.
- CMBS is part of the standard AcuraWatch™ suite of advanced safety and driver assistive technologies.
Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
Helps you steer more precisely, helping keep the vehicle more centered in its lane, so you can feel more in control, especially on narrow roadways.
- The LKAS38 uses a camera to identify lane markings and works to keep the vehicle within a detected lane.
- If you steer the vehicle out of a detected lane without using a turn signal, the system sends a slight tug to the steering wheel and guides the car to the center of the lane.
- Though the steering wheel may move during its course adjustment, you can easily hold your course if you want.
- LKAS works on straight or mildly curving roads at speeds of 45–90 mph.
- LKAS is part of the AcuraWatch™ suite of advanced safety and driver assistive technologie
Road Departure Mitigation with Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
Part of the standard AcuraWatch™ suite of advanced safety and driver assistive technologies that help alert the driver to undesired lane or road departures, and takes active countermeasures to help the driver bring the vehicle back into its lane of travel.
- Uses the windshield-mounted camera to recognize when the vehicle may be leaving a detected lane or the roadway itself, and then applies the brakes (something that LKAS does not do) and generates steering torque to help the driver keep the vehicle in the lane or on the road.
- Works at speeds of 45–90 mph.
- If the system determines that the vehicle is deviating from a detected lane with no turn signal activation by the driver, or the vehicle is leaving the roadway, it will apply the brakes and attempt to steer the vehicle back into the proper lane.
- Road Departure Mitigation52 setting is Normal or Wide: The driver is alerted with a rapid vibration through the steering wheel, the system beeps and a message appears in the MID. Braking may also be applied if the painted lane lines are solid and continuous.
- Road Departure Mitigation setting is Warning Only: The system beeps and a message appears in the MID.
- Lane Departure Warning (LDW)37 can help reduce the stress of driving on the open road and provide an increased level of active safety by alerting you if the vehicle is leaving a lane without a turn signal activated.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
Helps the driver maintain proper tire air pressure to improve driving safety and fuel efficiency, as well as reduce wear and tear on the vehicle’s tires.
- TPMS indicates the pressure in all four tires in real time on the Multi-Information Display (MID).
- A TPMS alert icon illuminates whenever any of the tires has a significantly low pressure reading that requires attention.
Hill Start Assist
Helps reduce rollback when starting on hills.
- Brake pressure is held briefly when stopped on an incline or descent, allowing time for the driver’s foot to move from the brake pedal to the accelerator without having the vehicle start to move backward.

Tire Sealant and Inflator Kit
Adds peace of mind with a kit stowed beneath the cargo floor to provide air to fill a low tire, or tire sealant to fix a repairable tire puncture.
- The kit contains a 12-volt compressor, an air pressure gauge and tire sealant in a compact, lightweight package.
- The compressor can provide air only, or air with sealant.
A compact Accessory Spare Tire Kit is available, and fits below the cargo floor. If a compact spare tire is used, the under-floor storage or available cargo bin system will need to be removed. A vehicle jack and lug wrench are included in the Accessory Spare Tire Kit.

Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with Traction Control
Helps enhance control during acceleration, braking, cornering or a sudden maneuvers, helping to keep you safe and focused on the road.
- Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®)10 is an Electronic Stability Control system that works with the vehicle’s Drive-by-Wire™ throttle and its 4-channel ABS systems to enhance control capability.
- Vehicle Stability Assist with Traction Control applies braking force to a slipping wheel, driving force to the wheel with more traction.
- You can reduce the traction control effect, to allow more wheel slip during stuck conditions, by pressing the VSA button. (ABS remains fully operational at all times.)
- Vehicle Stability Assist with Traction Control can reduce the dangers of over- and understeering and loss of traction, reducing torque and applying brakes to each wheel as needed.
- The adjustment is so quick you may not even notice it’s happening.
Trailer Stability Assist
Boosts confidence by helping enhance vehicle stability while a trailer is being towed, on vehicles equipped with optional trailer hitch and wiring harness.
- When the vehicle and trailer become unstable while driving, trailer stability assist determines whether the cause is:
- Crosswinds
- Improper towbar down load
- Excessive vehicle speed
- If trailer oscillation is detected and the swaying increases, the system applies the brakes or controls engine output to reduce vehicle speed.
- Trailer stability assist will not prevent the vehicle and trailer from swaying.

10. Vehicle Stability Assist. VSA is not a substitute for safe driving. It cannot correct the vehicle’s course in every situation or compensate for reckless driving. Control of the vehicle always remains with the driver.
16. Blind spot information systemThe system is not a substitute for your own visual assessment before changing lanes; system accuracy will vary based on weather, size of object and speed.
32. Hybrid Emissions. AT-PZEV (Advanced Technology Partial Zero-Emission Vehicle) models as certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) are available in California and states that have adopted California Zero-Emission Vehicle regulations. Models in non-CARB states are ULEV-2 (Ultra-Low-Emission Vehicle) certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB).
33. Rear View CameraAlways visually confirm that it is safe to drive before backing up; the rear view camera display does not provide complete information about all conditions and objects at the rear of your vehicle.
34. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) cannot detect all objects ahead and may not detect a given object; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and other factors. ACC should not be used in heavy traffic, poor weather or on winding roads. The driver remains responsible for avoiding a collision.
37. Lane Departure Warning (LDW) only alerts drivers when lane drift is detected without a turn signal in use. LDW may not detect all lane markings or lane departures; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and road condition. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.
38. LKAS only assists driver in maintaining proper lane position when lane markings are identified without a turn signal in use and can only apply mild steering torque to assist. LKAS may not detect all lane markings; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and road condition. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.
39. Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS). Depending on the circumstances, CMBS may not go through all of the alert stages before initiating the last stage of collision mitigation. CMBS cannot detect all objects ahead and may not detect a given object; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and other factors. System operation affected by high interior heat. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.
52. Road Departure Mitigation may not detect all lane markings or lane departures; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and road conditions. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.
