Checking oil level on dipstick

Engine oil, used for over a hundred years to lubricate moving mechanical parts, is essentially the lifeblood of your Acura vehicle. As such, it’s important to make sure there’s the right amount of oil in your vehicle in order to lubricate and protect your engine’s internal moving parts. No matter if you’re taking on a lengthy Staten Island commute, or if you’re sticking to the city streets of Bridgewater, you need the proper type and amount of engine oil in your vehicle to keep it running smoothly for as long as possible. How to Check Oil Level in Car

Thankfully, lots of modern vehicles, including ones from the Acura lineup, have electronic oil level monitoring systems that keep tabs on the lifespan and levels of oil in your vehicle. However, if this system is faulty, or if your Union County ride simply doesn’t have this system, then you’ll be checking the oil level in your car manually. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Make sure the vehicle is parked on level ground and that the engine is turned off and cold. This will ensure that the oil has settled to the bottom of the oil pan, providing an accurate measurement.
  2. Open the vehicle’s hood, safely propping it open, and locate the vehicle’s oil dipstick. The dipstick should be sticking out of the engine block, and is usually orange or yellow in color at the top.
  3. Pull the dipstick out of the engine and wipe any oil from the end of it. Then re-insert the dipstick all the way back into its tube, then pull it out and look at both sides to see where the level is.
